The Convenient Marriage

Since it's Friday, it's the last Georgette Heyer giveaway at Maymay's Memos. She's sad to see it end. So am I.

Today's book is The Convenient Marriage. Isn't that a familiar theme in romance novels? Well, check out how Ms. Heyer handles it. You'll be impressed. And yes, I CAN say this without having read the novel! (Who else can make horrid eyebrows a valid reason for not being a catch?)

You've got to move fast, as Shawn will be drawing for the winners of ALL the books tomorrow. Saturday.

The Scarecrow (and) Cemetery Dance (audios)

Mary K From LA has got TWO great gives that are making me drool. Hard.

She's got UNABRIDGED AUDIO books (three copies of each) to share. And they are doozies.

The first is Michael Connelly's The Scarecrow. I'm still bummed I can't go see him when he's in town this weekend. Kids. Family. You know how it is; no wonder we need to escape into a good book on a regular basis!

The other audio book is ... well, it's from more authors whose most recent appearance I had to miss ('cause I didn't know about it!). It's Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston. Or Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. You pick. The book is Cemetery Dance. You KNOW you want to listen to this one with the lights up!

Your hostess (or, where Mary K From LA blogs) is Just One More Page... or Two. This is a US/Canada/street address only contest. And you have to mention which book you want. I don't think you can win both, unless you get really lucky.

Good luck choosing. I sure can't.

You have until June 21 to enter. Use this link.

Georgette Heyer Week

It's Georgette Heyer Week over at MayMay's Memos!!

If you're not a big romance fan, you may not know how deeply Ms. Heyer's works have influenced thousands of romance writers (the published and the not-published, I'm sure).

The savvy folk at Sourcebooks understand the sort of power Ms. Heyer had. They are reprinting many of her books -- how many, I don't know and I'd dig it up but I'd really like to work on my own books today, so if you know, leave it in the comments and I'll edit this post.

Maymay's going to give four of Ms. Heyer's books away at the end of the week.

Start here, at this post. You'll have to remember to go back and check out the rest of the week's offerings, but I promise, this is one bookmark you'll be glad you make!

Mating Rituals of the North American Wasp

Okay, now, when I saw this book title (Mating Rituals of the North American Wasp), my tired brain decided it was a boring book of nonfiction. Then I thought of this book called The Wasp Factory, which I was supposed to be on a book ring for, but I guess the book got lost 'cause it never got here.

I did NOT expect the clever title, or the uproarious plot concept.

Check it out at chic Book Reviews. Amy does author Lauren Lipton proud with her post. I don't know about you, but now I've GOT to read this.

You can win it... if you're a member of Amy's Goodreads group. We don't usually post gives that have these sorts of strings attached, but Amy's a good friend and if you're too lazy to join the group, that simply ups MY chances at this book!

Read all about it via this link.

Public Service Announcement:

Actually, I've got two today:

First, Bridget and I would like to wish you guys a very happy Memorial Day. Take a second and think about the meaning of the day. The people we're honoring have more guts than Trevor does. (You might want to scurry over to The Meet and Greet and see what I'm talking about.)

Also, we'll be moving Win a Book over to my West of Mars platform starting on June 1. You can make that easier on yourself by going over there NOW and picking up the feed. Check out the place. Let me know what you think.

More posts will be added this week. Maybe they'll be posts about things you send us. Maybe I've got a few surprises up my sleeve.

And then, on June 1, we'll leave a "Farewell, come hang at our new place" post here, and the party will really get swinging over at West of Mars.

Once again, the link for the NEW Win a Book:

The NDD Book

Nutrition's an important thing. And now famed Dr. Sears has something to say about it in his book, The NDD Book: How Nutrition Deficit Disorder Affects Your Child's Learning, Behavior, and Health, and What You Can Do About It - Without Drugs.

(Holy smoke. If you're trying to read that book title, I hope YOU don't have ADD. Of course, with a title THAT long, you just might by the time you're done slogging through there!)

It's an interesting concept, isn't it? Studies have shown that being out in nature help relieve some symptoms of ADD. And now to feed our bodies properly... yeah. It makes sense to me.

But what do I know? I'm just some hack writer.

(Apologies to anyone who just made beverages come out their noses.)

You can check out this book thanks to Merry Weather. She's got two copies to share with friends in the US and Canada. Let me know if the book is easier to read than its title!

Use this link before June 7.

Do-Over

Let's all welcome BookNaround to Win a Book!

(Cue the applause and cheers)

Kristen is the author of this cool blog, and she's a little late with a Cinco de Mayo celebration. That's okay. Some celebrations are best when they linger.

The way to celebrate this is by being a kid once again, with author Robin Hemley. The book is called Do-Over. The cover makes it hard to resist.

Unfortunately, this is a US/Canada only/no PO Box contest. You guys know the drill...

BUT there are ways to gain extra entries. You've got until May 27.

Read all the deets via this link.

Guest Interview: Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

Okay, so I keep listing Mr. Child first when I write about the amazing duo that is Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, but I fix it. Oh, how I fix it.

That's because these guys deserve nothing but the best sort of respect from their fans. Of which I am one. I, of course, think you should join me in this.

Fantasy Book Critic has a great interview with them. Check it out via this link.

The Demo Tapes: Year 1

Yeah, yeah. I know what you're thinking: Susan really only runs Win a Book to promote herself, and here's more proof of that. Yawn.

After a day like yesterday, when Win a Book was ALL I did, I hope you really don't think that way!

If you're wondering what's so great about me and my fictional world, head on over to chic Book Reviews, where Amy has gone from being confused about Trevor to joining the Trevolution whole-heartedly.

And she's giving you the chance to do so, too.

Yep, she's giving away her copy of ShapeShifter: The Demo Tapes -- Year 1. It's a thin book and she doesn't say, so ... ask if you're an international friend.

Go follow the rules, which include coming to visit me at the Meet and Greet at West of Mars. If you haven't been by, why not??? I thought you loved me!

Okay. Blatant self-promotion over for the moment. Back to our regular stuff in a few.

Penguin Fantasy Prize Pack

Penguin Fantasy Prize Pack? Does it come with Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal in their skivvies and the Stanley Cup?

Trust me. THAT is a Penguins Fantasy Prize Pack.

However, Penguin Books doesn't agree. They seem to think that nine books make up a nice prize pack. They're probably right, especially once you see the list of books. But c'mon. My vision is MUCH better.

Here are the books for those of you not as hockey-obsessed (and yes, this is a general state of affairs for me, dating back to my graduate school years when I learned to play.)

Dull Boy by Sarah Cross
Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow
Goddess Boot Camp by Tera Lynn Childs
Possessions by Nancy Holder
DreamDark: SilkSinger by Laini Taylor
Fire by Kristin Cashore
Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove by Lauren Kate

Yowza. How's that for awesome?

All this book goodness is being hosted by the wonderful Lenore, of Presenting Lenore fame. Go visit her, even if you don't want to win. We bloggers love visits (and comments!).

Use this link before June 3. This is for US and Canadian friends, please!

Author Interview: Tera Lynn Childs

What happens when two authors knock heads? It's TJ Bennett and Tera Lynn Childs hanging together at TJ's blog, IMHO. I love one-question interviews (you may not know that I do them, myself)!

Here's the fine print, lifted directly from the blog post:

Leave a comment for Tera and answer this (for a chance to win the “Mother May I?” gift basket and to find out if you can forgive Griffin's bad attitude): Have you ever had the fantasy come true? Do you have any experience with a real life bad boy who turned out to be a sweetheart just for you? Or is this just an urban legend? Inquiring (and delusional) minds want to know.

Remember May’s gift basket will contain signed books by Deanna Raybourn, Catherine Kean, Tera Lynn Childs, Monica McCarty, TJ Bennett, a $20 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble, and a unique handcrafted “Charmed” jewelry set by BlackDogWhiteDogJewelry, local Houston artisans. For a chance to win the whole she-bang, leave a comment on our guests posts (the more comments, the more chances to win) during the contest period. Sorry, US and Canada residents only, please. Further details are on my contest page.

To Beguile a Beast

I swear, the book about romance written by the Smart Bitches has done some immediate good: this is the first time I remember seeing a true romance given this much publisher support.

It's overdue.

The book is called To Beguile a Beast, and it was written by Elizabeth Hoyt. Five copies (for US and Canada friends without PO Boxes) are up for grabs at Books and Needlepoint.

It's no shame to be into romances. I am. Where do you think that great relationship between Mitchell and Kerri comes from?

Head over to Books and Needlepoint via this link before June 5 and join the masses. Be proud of being into romance.

Cemetery Dance

Have you experienced the goodness that is authors Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child? Do you want to listen to creepy tales that are just delicious enough to run a shiver up your back but still let you have peaceful slumber?

I've got the audio books for you.

Or, well. Really. Carol over at Carol's Notebook does. Me, I'm just telling you about them.

She's got two copies of Cemetery Dance (which I still need to read) to share with her readers. Again, this is an audio!

You have until June 3 to enter, and only if you live in the US or Canada and don't rely on a PO Box for your mail. (Be like me. Abuse your friends! They don't mind if you give them first reading rights, you know. Usually.)

Check out all the rules and stuff via this link.

The Scarecrow (Audio)

Over at Carol's Notebook, there are copies of The Scarecrow, written by Michael Connelly -- in audio! All you audio book (or talking book, as a friend of mine calls them) fiends ought to take note!

Carol's got two copies for two friends -- uhh, that's one copy per friend. Just so we're all clear on that. One book. Two winners. Each gets their own.

The book will come directly from the publisher, so US and Canada only, please. And, of course, us PO Box holders are being discriminated against once again...

You have until June 2 to enter. Check out the rules!

Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe

Tina at Book Chatter and other stuff is so nice. I love getting e-mails from her (and all of you guys. Thankfully, there are no trolls or abusers in the Win a Book inbox. Let's keep it that way. Please?)

Anyway, Tina's got a copy of Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe, written by Jennie Shortridge. In fact, Ms. Shortridge herself has donated this copy -- and she's even going to sign it.

For that reason, this contest is restricted to the US and Canada only. Sorry, international friends.

You have until May 28 to check out the rules and enter yourself. Use this link.

Now THIS sounds like a fun book. Told entirely via e-mails, Holly's Inbox has been declared by Luanne at A Bookworm's World as THE chick lit book of the year. (Did you miss her recent review of this book? Use the link she provides!)

In an interesting twist, this book was written by a dude named Bill Surie who's using the penname of Holly Denham. Get it? Holly's Inbox? Written by Holly...

Oh, never mind. Just go over to Luanne's and read all about it, okay? Be sure to enter to win a copy of Holly's Inbox (if you live in the US or Canada. If you live in both, I'm jealous, and yes, you count for this contest's purposes).

Twilight of Avalon

Oh, my. Is it? Can it be?

Nope. It's not more Marion Zimmer Bradley, although a title involving the word Avalon always makes me think of her.

Rather, this is Anna Elliot's take on Tristan and Isolde. It's called Twilight of Avalon and the fact that it's about Tristan and Isolde alone makes me want it.

Do you?

A Reader's Respite, hosted by Michele, has a copy that she's willing to send out internationally. Why? Because she loved every word!

Read all about it. Check out the links she's posted. And then follow her rules to enter by May 28.

Bound to Please

Yep, this is the third contest Readaholic is currently sponsoring. Wow, she's one busy lady!

The book this time is another goodie. It's called Bound to Please, and it was written by Lilli Feisty. It looks like it's keeping in the same vein of romance, but has that oh-so-hot erotic twist thrown in. Be sure you like that sort of thing, or are open to exploring it if you enter for this book!

You must also live in the US or Canada (or have a friend there who's willing to read the book and then ship it your way...) and not be dependent on a PO Box the way I am.

Use this link by May 30.

Good thing, because it's the title of the Elizabeth Hoyt novel that Readaholic has to share. She's got five copies, in fact, for five of you savvy enough to dig romance the way I do!

Romance novels are *fun.* If it's been awhile since you read one, why not start here? You'll see what I mean in very short order...

Made in the USA

It's the weekend. Clearly, it's a weekend with a Torment Susan theme, as I've been posting books I'm lusting after.

This time, it's Billie Letts' Made in the USA, offered to you by April at Cafe of Dreams.

It's for friends in the US and Canada, but books can't be mailed to PO Boxes. I swear, that rule alone has kept my office floor from caving into the basement, sending books flying in a shower of pages and colorful covers...

You have until May 25 to enter for this book. Tell me how it is. Rub it in. I dare you.

Use this link.

The Girl Who Stopped Swimming

Aaugh! Really! Stop the torture!!

Yep, more copies of Joshilyn Jackson's The Girl who Stopped Swimming, thanks to Marie at The Burton Review this time.

BUT here's the catch: Marie wants 100 Followers. If you send a friend over and that friend names your name, you'll get FIVE entries into the contest. Of course, the friend has to be a bona fide follower; that's the whole point here!

Winners must be in the US or Canada, but books can't be delivered to PO Boxes.

And there are other ways to gain entries, too. Go read the rules and decide what to do. Are you a follower? Maybe you should be....

Use this link. You have until May 23.

The Girl Who Stopped Swimming

I swear, you guys keep giving away Joshilyn Jackson's The Girl Who Stopped Swimming just to torment me. But... I'll be nice and let you valued readers have yet another shot at this latest set of five copies of it. I'll also be nice to my office, which is drowning in books (ask Bridget, or see my response to this week's Booking Through Thursday if you don't believe me!).

Anyway, it's April at A Cafe of Dreams who's got the copies. And since they're coming from the publisher, that means US and Canada only, and no PO Boxes, please.

Use this link by May 29.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home

Somehow, our friend Sheri at A Novel Menagerie wound up with two copies of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home. So she read one copy and reviewed it. And with the other?

Yup. It's going to go to a new home. It'll have to stay within the US or Canada unless you can help with the excess mailing costs, which isn't a bad idea, given that I've paid more in postage at times than a book's been worth. (I've also done the, "Hey, since you're going to this country, would you drop this book in the mail for me" technique. That's always fun.)

Check it all out -- including the great review and rules for entry via this link. Get there before May 23.
