Susan at Walking on Sunshine wants to give you a copy of The Scandalous Summer of Sissy LeBlanc, which she is just raving about!

Hi all! A correction on a previous post: the Sisters of Misery giveaway is actually being hosted by Bookfinds, not Cheryl's Book Nook. Cheryl was helping to pass on the word. So follow this link for your actual entry.

Carole Nelson Douglas and more!

I'm drowning in books. I am.

So I've put together a package of excerpts I collected at last April's Romantic Times Conference here in Pittsburgh, and am giving them to the lucky winner.

The reason? To celebrate Carole Nelson Douglas and the fact that one of these excerpts (the one featuring her new book, Brimstone Kiss) got me totally hooked on her new series, Delilah Street, Paranormal Investigator.

So come on by and read my rave about Carole Nelson Douglas. You may not get a full-length book out of me (this time; there are plenty more set to follow!), but you'll get a bunch of great stuff. You know you want to.

Enter via this link.

Bobbie Faye's (Kinda, Sorta, Not Really) Family Jewels

I've mentioned Toni McGee Causey here before. I know I've mentioned her at my usual home; heck, I even gave away a copy of her first book, Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day. I even gave my autographed copy a new place of honor on my shelves this afternoon.

That's why I'm excited as anything to see that Marie, The Boston Bibliophile herself, is giving away an Advanced Reader's Copy of the follow-up, Bobbie Faye's (Kinda, Sorta, Not Really) Family Jewels.

I'm a HUGE fan of this series. It's a don't miss.

Enter via this link.

(and if you've reviewed either book and want me to link to your reviews, use the Win a Book e-mail and we'll get those links up there for you!)

The Gargoyle

Here's another book that's starting to pick up some momentum here in blogland. Andrew Davidson has written an intriguing-sounding debut called The Gargoyle, and people who have ARCs are starting to talk about it.

Readerville, over at So Many Books, So Little Time, has a copy to share with you. That's because she liked it so much, she went out and bought (or pre-ordered; I'm not sure it's out yet) a copy for her shelf and is now willing to pass the ARC along.

There are lots of ways to enter, including click throughs visible in her stats. While I (that'd be Susan, for those of you wondering who's talking to you) usually don't enter contests, this sounds like my cup of tea, so I'll make this statement now: I'm going to enter this one, you all are going to use these links and click through, and when I win the book, I'll read it and pass it along to one of you.

One book, lots of readers. This is how community is built.

If you don't want to wait for me ('cause I can be slow), enter via this link. But you want to use these links to up my chances, right?

Queen of the Road

Doreen Orion is everywhere these days, and now she's at Devourer of Books. Or, well, her book, Queen of the Road, is.

Doreen's got a great post about how this book won her over. It's a lot of fun to read.

And folks, she's willing to ship worldwide. Isn't she a gem?

Check it out via this link.

Sisters of Misery

Cheryl, at her Book Nook, seems to have her own copy of Sisters of Misery, written by Megan Kelley Hall, to share with a reader who leaves her a comment. She doesn't have any North American mailing restrictions...

This is a book that seems to be garnering a lot of buzz. Is it worth it? I can't wait to hear what you guys think of it.

Happy Housewives!

Deceptively Delicious, by Jessica Seinfeld
The Joy of Cooking: All About Chicken

Interested? Check it all out via this link.

This Week at Stone Soup...

Katrina's torn herself away from her new iPhone long enough to let you pick your prize this week. It must be a book she's mentioned before, but since she provides links, you should be able to come up with something.

Enter via this link, and have fun!

Christian Book Pack

Over at Reflections, Melissa has a Christian Book Pack consisting of four books:

The Jewel of Gresham Greene, written by Lawana Blackwell
Painted Dresses, written by Patricia Hickman
A Mile in my Flip-Flops, written by Melody Carlson
That's (Not Exactly) Amore, written by Tracey Bateman

Read the fine print and everything else via this link.

Twenty Eight from the TRW

I am lucky enough to have a LOT of neat friends in the Toronto Romance Writer's Group. When you see what they have teamed up to give away, you'll want to be friends with them, too.

There's a scavenger hunt element to this, but the reward is high: twenty-eight books published by this powerhouse of a group. Some are print, some are e-books, all are guaranteed to take you new places.

The Safety of Secrets

Lisamm at Books on the Brain is hosting author DeLaune Michel at her blog today, in the form of an interview. They are discussing Michel's novel The Safety of Secrets and once you read the whole interview (it is a good one!), Lisamm has a copy of the book to give to one lucky reader.

Check it out and enter via this link.

Shining City

Lisa at Minds Alive on the Shelves dropped us an e-mail (see it there on the left-hand side? You reader people should click through to see it. It's really quite lovely.)

Anyway, Lisa's got a book for US and Canada friends. It's called Shining City and it was written by Seth Greenland. The publisher was kind enough to send Lisa a brand-new hardcover just for this contest.

One important note: while the book is funny, it's got some sexually explicit content in it. And a naked woman on the cover with really perfect breasts. Or one really perfect breast; that's all we get to see, and in profile at that. Anything more sensitive is covered up.

You've been warned.

Deadline is August 3rd at 4PM CET.

My Six Degrees of Sexy Friends!

I'm quite proud to call the women over at Six Degrees of Sexy friend. They are great writers and even better people. And now, while most of them are busy with the Romance Writers of America national conference, one of them is holding down the fort and hosting a contest.

Here are the details (taken from Wylie's Post, which was more entertaining than her e-mail.)

The Six Degree of Sexy gals are holding a contest beginning this Monday, July 28th.
For six days, while we're studiously honing our craft *ahem cough-cough* at the Romance Writers of America National Conference in San Francisco (thanks for the correct spelling, N), there will be one question posted per day. All you need to do is drop by, answer the dead-easy questions and cross your fingers that your name is pulled from the magic hat.

That's SIX days, SIX questions, SIX prizes!!
Oops, I really didn't mean to do the 666 thing.
Okay, TECHNICALLY, there are EIGHT prizes because both Christine and Red have Ellora's Cave cards to give away. 668? Yeah, that's better.

So visit Six Degrees of Sexy from Monday, July 28th through Saturday August 2nd for a chance to win books by
Red Garnier
Robin Rotham
Renee Field
Amy Ruttan
Christine d'Abo
and Wylie Kinson

Yee haw. Go be part of this!

Check it out via this link.

Half a book!

The Samhellion, Samhain publishing's "fiction, articles, and musings by Samhain Publishing's Leading Authors," is advertising a neat way to experience three new authors.

They have provided links to three ebooks -- but only half. If you like the book, there's a link embedded in the document for you to use to purchase the entire thing. If not, there's no obligation.

It's a risk-free (for you) way to experience the writings of Beth Williamson, J.C. Wilder, and Sydney Somers.

Why not give it a try?

Public Service Announcement:

I just wanted to let everyone know that Susan will be off and travelling for the next few days. And most of the next three weeks.

If you want to have a contest posted here, PLEASE use the cool and nifty WinaBook at Westofmars dot com e-mail, so that the rest of the gang can see it and post it for you. They DO look, believe it or not. They're just not as chained to this thing called a computer as I am...

Have a super few weeks. I'll be in and out; you can best follow me over at my main blog if you so desire, not that I blog about myself much to begin with. I mean, heck, I'm always online, sniffing out news about great books. Right?

See you guys soon. In the meantime, read a lot of great stuff and be nice to the rest of the gang!

Genesis of Shannara Trilogy

At one point in my self-guided tour of the SciFi/Fantasy section of my local bookstore and library, I know I read Terry Brooks' Shannara books. The series is one of the enduring classics of all time.

Now, Robert at Fantasy Book Critic has THREE hardcover sets of the latest trilogy set in that world: Genesis of Shannara. (The third book will be released August 26.)

If you're a Brooks fan, you'll want to take part in this. Unfortunately, this is a North American Only contest.

But if you fit those qualifications, enter via this link.

The Lace Reader

Marie, our favorite friendly Boston Bibliophile, has a copy of The Lace Reader, written by Brunonia Barry, to share with friends and fans. This is an ARC copy, as the book itself won't be in stores until the day the contest ends: July 29.

Lots of hype surrounding this summer read. Be someone who knows why.

Enter via this link.

The Wednesday Sisters

Stephanie at the Written Word has been given an extra hardcover copy of The Wednesday Sisters, written by Meg Waite Clayton, to give away.

Wait until you read her review of this book. Stephanie even includes links to other reviews around the Net, so you can get a very good idea if this is something for you.

If it is, go on and enter via this link.

More Free E-Books

I really think that these free e-books are a great way to discover if you like reading onscreen or not. Plus, they potentially introduce you to new authors. Win-win.

This time, the book is City of Pearl, written by Karen Traviss.

The host who's giving the book away is Eos Books, and they are celebrating their tenth anniversary. Pretty cool.

Use this link to download.

Church of the Dog by Kaya McLaren

It is time to announce the next book giveaway at PussReboots: Church of the Dog by Kaya McLaren. Penguin has re-released this 2001 debut novel. I love the cover art!

As with all my contests, I am asking you to answer a question. To qualify, you must answer it. This time I want to know something about Oregon. See #4 for ideas.

1. Contest runs from today through August 23 at 11PM Pacific Time
2. Winner will be notified via email at 11PM on August 23 and will have 3 days to respond with a mailing address. If no response is received in that time, a new winner will be picked.
3. Open to the entire world.
4. To qualify your comment you must tell me something about Oregon. It can be a fact, a memory, a book or movie that takes place in the state. Be creative.
5. For extra credit you can:
a) include your blog's URL
b) blog about the contest and link back to the post.

Good stuff.

The Purge Continues!

Becca over at The Inside Cover is continuing her bookshelf purge. This week, she's got three more to send off into the world.

Here's what she said:
The first place winner will receive a signed copy (but it's JUST his signature) of David Sedaris' new book, When You Are Engulfed In Flames.

Second place receives my ARC copy of The Richest Season by Maryann McFadden, which I reviewed here.

Third place gets my copy (paperback) of A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.

Real Vampires Have Curves

My good friend Shaunesay (over at Shaunie's Happy Place) is giving away a gently used, BookCrossing-registered copy of Real Vampires Have Curves.

How can you NOT want to read a book with such a great title?

Be sure to tell Shaunie what your favorite humorous paranormal book has been when you enter. If you don't have one but have a few on a wish list, that'll work, too. I think Shaunie's thinking her TBR isn't big enough. *snicker*

(Hers might be bigger than mine, and mine is over 500)

Seriously. Real Vampires Have Curves is the first in a series, and Shaunie's been nice enough to list 'em all for you. How's THAT for service?

On Monday (so mark your calendars -- or not. That's today. Uh-huh. Yep. It is.), Jeri Smith-Ready will be guest blogging and talking about her new YA book, which may or may not ever see the light of day.

Get the goods here, at her blog, and check the link for where she'll be 'cause I'm too lazy to post it. (No, actually, I have to put the kids to bed, and you should be reading Jeri's blog anyway, so consider this your excuse to start!)

Duck!

Over here at Win a Book, we're all about books. They feel good in your hands. They take you to neat places. You get to draw pictures in your head and they're yours, all yours and everyone else's interpretations are wrong.

So I wasn't sure I wanted to post about this book/DVD combo. I mean, the book's only a novella, for crying out loud. That's not a whole novel. It's too short.

But it's about a duck. You know. Like Daffy, only white and real. And award-winning.

And the novella (and the DVD) come out tomorrow, July 22.

Read all about it at Movie Room Reviews.

The Shadow of the Wind

Pat over at Fantasy Hotlist has got a goodie. This baby is so special, I can't believe that the people at Subterranean Press are giving this away.

But they are!

IT is a copy of The Shadow of the Wind, written by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. This copy is a limited edition of a limited edition book (meaning that you're getting an advance readers copy, or ARC of a limited edition press run). If you limit it any more, it may not exist.

Be sure to read the rules carefully! Pat's a stickler for them (as we all should be) and you don't want to disqualify yourself.

Read more and enter via this link.

Another Host!

Man, I can't believe how hot this book is! (and may my own book be this hot once it hits the shelves. Even half as hot would be good. Or a quarter.)

Yes, I'm talking Stephanie Meyer! Yes, I'm talking The Host!

This time, it's Dar at Peeking Between the Pages who's got a copy to share. Read the rules, as always; you've got until July 24. Sorry, gang, US and Canada only.

Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging

Alea's having her first-ever giveaway, too. (Man, is this the summer of firsts, or what?)

And does she have a great one. I've read this one; I'll fully attest to how much fun it is.

The book is Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging and I swear, it may be aimed at the teenage or YA crowd, but it resonates with us adults, too.

The contest is for US folk only, but Alea promises you International readers that she loves you, too. You've got until Saturday, August 2 to enter, and as always, read the rules carefully. Alea's looking to talk books with you as a condition of your entry, among other things...

Dark Harvest

You'll be able to say you heard about this one first here, and it's all thanks to our good friend Amberkatze.

This week, author Lynda Hilburn stops in at Amber's with an interview and an electronic ARC of her new book, Dark Harvest, the sequel to The Vampire Shrink. Now, this book won't be in stores until October, but because Amber's so cool and Ms. Hilburn is so nice...

Check out the interview, and if you're so moved -- and willing to read an e-ARC (and why wouldn't you be?), enter via this link.

The Host

Lori at Lori's Reading Corner was savvy enough to use our cool e-mail address, and to tell us she's got a copy of The Host for you. Yep, it's that ultra-hot Stephanie Meyer.

AND Lori was kind enough to pick up a spare copy, just to share with her readers. That's one awesome book blogger. Unfortunately, Lori's spending money on books so she can't afford to mail them out of the US. But she still spent the money she could have put into gasoline, instead!

BookRoomReviews and those 14 books from Hachette

Man, Hachette is giving away a veritable TON of these boxes of books, aren't they?

BookroomReviews has the latest one, only with a catch: the number of entries will dictate how many boxes will be given away -- and if there are 500 entries (or more), Hachette will allow one lucky person to win, instead, a copy of the new Stephanie Meyers book, Breaking Dawn.

Once again, this is a US/Canada only contest; it seems to be a requirement of Hachette Books. If you're not in the US or Canada, why not make a new friend with deep pockets who can ship your winnings to you?

Be sure to follow the directions; you can earn up to twelve entries for yourself!

Hmmm. Look what you find when you surf... new book blogs!

This time, it's Blood of the Muse, and they are giving away a Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child book, The Wheel of Darkness. If you follow the books by these two men (and you should be!), let me tell you that yes, it's a Pendergast novel.

Sadly, the contest is open only to US/Canadian residents, and only until August 5. But if you win, you can mock me, as I'm finishing up Brimstone.

The Last Queen

Kelly Hewitt, who has a really cool blog, has four copies of The Last Queen, by CW Gortner.

What a cool sounding book this is, especially for those of you who like historicals. The character in question, Queen Juana of Castile, is often overlooked by historians.

There are two ways to enter, so make sure you follow the rules and get on it -- you only have until 29 July.

And check back on Monday for an interview with author CW Gortner. If you haven't read Kelly's interviews yet, you're in for a treat!

Enter via this link.

Tan Lines

See how well the handy-dandy e-mail at this place works? You request, we post!

Today, it's Cheryl at Cheryl's Book Nook, telling us that she's got a copy of a book called Tan Lines. The author is J.J. Salem, who is another new author on my radar.

You can go on by now and visit, but the contest doesn't begin until the 22nd of July -- that's Tuesday, folks. Mark your calendars so you don't forget to enter, and in the meantime, as you wait, peruse her archives!

Don't forget! No entry until Tuesday! But use this link when it's time.

No More Grumpy Bookseller

No More Grumpy Bookseller is trying to get word out around the blogosphere. So here goes... This is stolen directly from an e-mail she sent to my bud J. Kaye 'cause, you know, I think J. Kaye's the cat's meow.

I'm doing something a little different on my blog this weekend and I was hoping ya'll could help me get the word out. I'm posting and interview with author Delaune Michel - J. Kaye, she's a fellow Southern girl! Born and raised in Louisiana, niece of Andre Dubus, first cousin to James Lee Burke and Andre Dubus III, she writes lit fic. Her first title, Aftermath of Dreaming, is based in part on her own affair with Warren Beatty!

Her latest title, Safety of Secrets, is about two friends navigating the world of Hollywood together. It deals with their very different career paths and the ultimate results of one friend having spilled the beans on a secret that has been kept for over two decades. It's a touching story that I think lots of people can relate to. This is Delaune's second novel, but she's also heavily involved in a writing program called Spoken Interludes.

I'm thinking I might do a giveaway with this, I just have to track down a copy of the book first. If ya'll could help spread the word, though, that would be great. Again, I'm posting the interview on Saturday. I've got a notice on my blog, but any help would be appreciated.

So there you go. Go visit No More Grumpy Bookseller and check out this interview.

Immortal

Okay, now, if you're not a regular at J. Kaye's book blog, I can't help you beyond this post.

You see, J. Kaye has been given three copies of Immortal, by Traci L. Slatton.

But... you'll need to visit her blog to see exactly how she'll be giving them away. And then you'll have to visit her blog to enter. And then you'll want to visit because you'll be hooked...

Winning isn't always about free books. Remember that.

But if you want a copy of Immortal, use this link.

The Genizah at the House of Shepher

I got an e-mail from Dawn at She is Too Fond of Books, telling me she's got a few copies (although she didn't specify how many) of The Genizah at the House of Shepher, by Tamar Yellin. Recently published by St. Martin's, it was originally published by a smaller press, which is how I'd initially heard of it.

This is one book that's long been on my wishlist, personally and for my book club. Dawn links to her review, so be sure to check it out. Hopefully the switch of publishers will bring this great-sounding book a wider audience.

Angels of Darkness

My bud jezebelsk at Walking on Sunshine has got a doozy for you.

From her post:
Angels of Darkness is the collection of 48 tales which show the reader the darker side of women.

Yikes.

Marvin Kaye is the brave editor of this. It sounds intriguing, especially once you see the author list: Anne McCaffrey, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Jane Yolen... these are some big names.

The collection is disturbing (so says our brave reviewer), so be sure to read jezelbelsk's review carefully.

Discworld Graphic Novels

Whoa. Did you know that the famed Discworld series had been turned into graphic novels? I think I remember hearing about this project, and now Robert at Fantasy Book Critic has the first two volumes.

(hey, according to his site, they were first published fifteen years ago!)

These volumes he has to offer are hardback editions. Introduced here are the bizarre misadventures of Twoflower, the Discworld's first ever tourist, and possibly—portentously—its last, and his guide Rincewind, the spectacularly inept wizard. Not to mention the Luggage, which has a mind of its own.

There are TEN copies of these two volumes to be given away, to US folk only (sorry!). Read his rules and instructions carefully!

And if you're thinking of winning them and making a quick buck off eBay... don't be a sleaze. Let someone who really wants to win them have a chance, okay?

Enter via this link.

The Promethean Age (set)

Yup, you guessed it. Robert at Fantasy Book Critic has another one.

From his blog itself:
In support of the August 5, 2008 release of Elizabeth Bear’s “Hell and Earth” which completes The Stratford Man duology that began in “Ink and Steel”, which in turn is a sequel to “Blood and Iron” and “Whiskey and Water”, Roc Books has agreed to give away THREE SETS of the author’s Promethean Age series including copies of “Whiskey & Water”, “Blood & Iron”, “Ink & Steel” and “Hell & Earth”!!!

Wow. I couldn't have said it any better. This is open to anyone in the world, and you have until August 5 to enter. But why wait?

As always, be sure to read the rules carefully.

Both are read copies, duplicates from her library but in excellent condition.

US only, and the drawing will be on Tuesday, July 6.

Enter via this link.

Joy of Spooking

Lenore, from Presenting Lenore, dropped into my mailbox to let me know that she's got a cool interview with author PJ Bracegirdle, the author of the new YA series, Joy of Spooking.

The first book comes out August 5, but she's got three ARCs (that's advanced readers copies) to give away to help drum up interest. Bracegirdle himself is throwing in a bookplate for each book.

The interview is a lot of fun. Bracegirdle comes off as hip and cool, but in a good way. Read it and you'll see what I mean.

Lots of ways to gain extra entries on this one, so read the instructions carefully. This is going to be a series to watch.

I'm mentioning this here because I've seen (and posted about) many contests featuring Ms. Strohmeyer. Maybe it's the People magazine feature, but I prefer to think that it's the power of bloggers like you guys, talking about authors you love.

It's restricted to US and Canada only (why don't the postage people give us a break on international shipping? That so holds up the joy of spreading great books around the world), so sorry for that.

As always, read the rules carefully!

The God of Animals

Melsy626 has a cool new giveaway at her blog. The God of Animals (an ARC copy!) that she stumbled across and now wants to share.

You have until July 14 (but why wait?) and it looks like she'll mail it anywhere in the world.

Check it out via this link.

(h/t to Michele for finding a broken link. All fixed!)

Calling all Book Clubs!

HarperCollins is giving away an entire year's worth of book club selections. Yep, twelve books, twelve copies of each (too bad if your group is bigger, I guess, but hey, don't look a gift horse and all that!). There's a wide selection of great books: Wicked, One Hundred Years of Solitude (a book so beautiful, it made me cry), and then very recent books like The Madonnas of Leningrad.

You DO have to sign up for their mailing list, of course, but if this is the sort of book your book club reads, what have you got to lose? Clearly, you'll gain access to information about other titles that'll be great for your group. And if your group is like me, sometimes it's hard to come up with ideas of what to read next.

Black Magic Woman

Harry, over at Temple Library Reviews, contacted me about a contest he's running. He's got a copy of Black Magic Woman, by Justin Gustainis.

I like Harry's attitude, which you'll see when you read the post. AND his contest rules.

I think you'll like him, too.

As Good as it Got

Booking Mama has another contest going. She has a fascinating review of As Good as it Got, written by Isabel Sharpe, and a spare ARC (advance readers copy) to share.

Use this link to read the review and to enter the contest. This is a US/Canada only contest, and it's a quickie. The winner will be named on July 5.

It's an interesting-sounding book. Good luck.
