Contest at Red Rose Publishing!

To celebrate their first year of publishing, the nice folks at Red Rose Publishing are holding a contest. Starting July 1, click on the Red Rose Icon to be taken to a website. Find the icon on their site, note the location, and click on it again to be taken to the next one.

Lots of prizes will be awarded on 31 July. Start hunting!

Add some Sizzle to your Summer Contest

The Hussies, a group of erotic writers, have assembled a long list of fellow authors for a summer contest. You'll have to visit the websites of the listed authors, find the answers to questions, and fill out your entry form.

Always a good way to discover new writers. That in and of itself is winning. But if you must have a book for free, there are plenty of prizes along the way.

Check it out via this link.

Cedar Rapids Library

You've probably heard about all the flooding in and around Cedar Rapids. Their library was hard hit and they've lost most of their collection. You can read more in this article. They can't take book donations (no storage during the clean up) but you can donate money for purchasing new books once the library is ready to house them.

All contributions are tax deductible. Here's how to help:
Make your check out to the Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation
Mail it to 500 1st St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52401.

So it's not quite as easy as some of the others floating around out there, but it could be a lot of fun to sort through those memories you've got (and are hopefully making) and share one with the readers of Red Room.

Enter via this link. Good luck!

Rock N Read Benefit

Author Stephanie Kuehnert is whipping up something cool. Check it out:

I had this idea for a “literary Lollapalooza” of sorts, where bands and authors would share the stage. Alexa Young signed on to help, and this is what resulted.

So, if you happen to be in the L.A. area on July 13th from 3 to 6 pm, you’ll want to swing by Virgin Megastore at 6801 Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood to take in musical performances by Lucid Nation, Noah Stone, Norfolk, Dirty Spanglish, and Moth Eaten and readings by N.L. Belardes, Cherry Cheva, Megan Crane, Kim Culbertson, Stephanie Kuehnert, Alyson Noël, Rebecca Woolf and Alexa Young.

If you’re not in California, there are still many ways that you can be involved. You can grab a banner from our website and help us spread the word. And if you are an author or musician, we are offering a unique promotional opportunity. Our event is free, but we’d like to raise money for Virgin Unite Charities so we are raffling off five identical prize packs. If you’d like to donate five (signed if possible) copies of your book, CDs, or other promotional items, we would love to have them! Contact me at stephanie at stephaniekuehnert dot com if you’re interested! I can’t tell you how excited I am about this amazing event!

(Although this is pretty shamelessly lifted from Caren Johnson's blog, I did it because I think it's a great thing to be involved with. I hope some of you will help out, too.)

The Memory of Water

Booking Mama is really hopping lately. She has a spare copy of The Memory of Water, by Karen White, and would love to share it with you.

But go on and read her thoughtful review. It's really wonderful.]

You have until June 30, and it's only for folk in the US and Canada. Darn postal rates...

Here is the link.

Driving Sideways by Jess Riley

Booking Mama was kind enough to drop a link into our inbox here, so I'm glad to pass it along.

After posting a review of Jess Riley's Driving Sideways, Julie was lucky enough to land an interview with Ms. Riley -- and to entice you to read it, she's offering a signed copy of Driving Sideways. You shouldn't need the enticement; it's another good interview. (Because we try to politely overlook any bad ones, you see.)

You only have until this Friday, so don't dawdle. Use this link.

David Weber

Fantasy Book Critic just does not stop!

This time, it's a set of books from David Weber. Two sets, in fact, to North American people only. The books are Off Armageddon Reef and By Schism Rent Asunder, both from the author’s Safehold series.

George Carlin

Our friend Nimrodiel is missing George Carlin. Many of us are, but Nim's trying to ease your pain by offering up a copy of When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?

Read the directions; she wants you to talk about Carlin. But if you have a good pork chop recipe, I'm sure she'd appreciate it. (and yes, I totally made that last part up.)

Natasha Rhodes Interview and Contest

Our friend Amberkatze is at it again! This time, she's got a great interview with author Natasha Rhodes and is giving away a signed copy of Rhodes' Dante Girl.

There's a question Amber would like you answer in order to enter the contest. Have some fun with it -- and the interview as well!

Scott Douglas experiments with wikis

From author/librarian Scott Douglas' blog:

A few years ago, I wrote a little book called The Library Tree. It is a whimsical library folktale of sorts, and now I'm giving it away! Some of you have already bought and read this book, and I thank you for your support; there's still a couple bound copies left, and if you'd really like one, then go to my Web store and buy it...but honestly, I'd be happier if you simply download and read it free and told all your friends about it!

The book is also licensed under the Creative Commons; you can edit it, change it, rewrite it...basically do whatever you want to it. The only thing you can't do is sell it for profit.

Why am I doing this? Call it an experiment, really. Plenty of people have started non-fiction Wiki efforts. How many people have started wiki fiction books? And this is the perfect book to start it with--it's short and it's a folktale (and folktales are frequently changed as they're passed down through the ages).

I'm thinking this is a very cool idea. Watching it should be fascinating.

Read more about it at Scott's blog.

I am hosting my first contest on my blog. My blog is called Reading In Appalachia. I have decided that I have neglected my growing collection of books that I keep planning to read. So I am posting a link to my bookshelf and my blog readers can look through it, find a book they would like to have and leave me a comment with the title. I will randomly select from the comments, read that book and then send it to the winner. Right now the contest ends on June 25th, winner announced June 26th. If it seems like people are enjoying it I may have it as a monthly thing. Right now I am just testing the waters with the first contest.

Go on and help turn it into a success! You and Icedream can read some really cool stuff, and isn't that part of what book communities are all about?

See Jane Score -- and win some books

Wendy at SeeJaneScore (or Kicks and Giggles? I'm not sure!) got an 82% on her final, so she's celebrating.

Go on over and congratulate her for that great score.

She'll say thanks by entering you in her contest for two brand-spankin' new copies of Grimspace by Ann Aguirre and Fallen by Erin McCarthy.

Personally, I'm dying to read both. But this chance is all about you.

Be sure to tell Wendy that I sent you -- and don't forget to congratulate her on that exam score!

More from our friend Amberkatze

Yup, that's right, folks. Our friend Amberkatze has another contest going.

Check this one out...

Lots going on at Laura Williams' Musings!

Laura was kind enough to drop us a line here, using our nifty Win a Book e-mail, asking us to post a few of her own contests. Our pleasure.

Sit back and get ready...

First, we have a giveaway for Fatal Deduction by Gayle Roper. Laura has two copies of this interesting-sounding novel, for US folk only. Deadline to enter is June 12.

Second is Living on the Black by John Feinstein. She's got five copies of this baseball book. It doesn't seem to involve the Pirates; therefore, it's gotta be good. Deadline to enter is June 14.

Laura's following that up with The Last Real Season, by Mike Shropshire. Again, she's got five copies of this for US households only. The deadline is June 15, and you can read more and enter here.

Are those previous two enough baseball books for you? Then try this one. With Endless Sight, by Allison Pittman. Laura has two copies, and again, for our US friends only. You must enter by June 19.

For all of these, you simply leave a comment. However, if you'd like a second shot at winning, mention the contest on your own blog and link on back to Laura's.

Laura does lots of cool stuff at her blog. You might want to make her a regular stop on your blog-reading rounds.

As always, enter at Laura's site for any/some/all of these goodies. Entries here don't do you a darn bit of good.

Stone Soup: This week's fun!

Over at Stone Soup, we're between Sarah Strohmeyer weeks -- stay tuned for Katrina to give away Strohmeyer's new one.

This week, you get to choose your own book (for $25 or less, excluding shipping). Go on and throw your name in Katrina's cool hat.

Yeah. Use that link. Entering here won't do you any good. Sorry.

Washington's Lady

Woo. This is one great-sounding historical. It's about Martha Washington. I'm surprised more people don't write about her. (or do they and I haven't come across them?)

Washington's Lady, by Nancy Moser is the name of the book. Reflections is the blog. And yep, she's got a question for you to answer in order for your entry to count. Tell her what recently released book you're looking forward to reading. If you don't have something in mind but are impatiently waiting for something, you can name that, too.

Stone Soup and Sarah Strohmeyer

Katrina at Stone Soup's got a doozy this week. In fact, it's such a doozy that it's going to last more than one week.

Sarah Strohmeyer, the Book Tart herself, has a new release coming out in two weeks. And to begin whetting your excitement, Katrina's giving away ANY of Strohmeyer's backlist. Well, only one, but you get to pick which one.

Two people get this lucky chance. Take Katrina up on it.

Not only is Sarah Strohmeyer a Book Tart, I met her briefly at RT. Lovely lady. She deserves a lot of attention and success. Let's help her achieve it, shall we?

Anyone up for a Scavenger Hunt?

Rainbow Reviews is hosting a scavenger hunt running through the entire month of June. Looks like fun -- and lots of authors who are new to me.

Lots of prizes -- but a lot of work, also. Still, if that's what it takes to discover new authors, I'm all for it.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

Quick! To Book Haven with you!

Nyssaneala over at Book Haven is giving away a copy of Blood of Flowers, by Anita Amirrezvani.

You only have until Friday, June 6, so move fast. And sorry but once again, the giveaway is limited to US and Canada. Leave her a comment, or link back to her post and get a second entry.

I have this one on my TBR, myself. Nyssaneala rated it a 4.5 stars out of 5. With recommendations like that, what are you waiting for?

Over at a Book Blogger's Diary...

Do you guys read A Book Blogger's Diary? Always interesting things going on, and this time, a giveaway.

It's David Baldacci's The Whole Truth. Two copies, in fact, for US and Canadian folks only. (Sorry everyone else!)

There's a hoop to jump through -- you have to leave a link to a book blog. Now, now, no panic allowed: You've got six in front of you. Not only can you leave a link to Win A Book (that'd be the blog you're currently reading), but you can link to any of us who host this place. I, of course, prefer anything with the West of Mars name on it, but I probably won't check up on you and hunt you down and ... umm...

Yeah.

You get the point. Six easy links for you... and that's before you go troll our blogroll...

Over at BookRoomReviews...

It's time for a Pay it Forward goodie at BookRoomReviews.

This is another new one to me. It's The Safety of Secrets, by Delaune Michel. This copy is an ARC -- Advance Reader's Copy -- and be sure to click on the book cover to read the review. After all, how else will you know if it's something you want to read?

This page is powered by Blogger. Isn't yours?
