I don't know about you, but as the holiday weekend begins to wind down, I'm searching for things to do with my kids. Watching them climb the walls has lost its charm.
Too bad I don't have a copy of this book yet... Why don't you get your hands on it before the December holidays set in? They are longer and the recipes in here will make great homemade gifts (if you can't buy a book, that is!).

If you donate $10 to his fundraising efforts, he'll enter you in a chance to win a cool prize. AND he'll match whatever funds his fans donate. He's aiming for $30k. So far, he's got $21k.
Make a difference. Win cool stuff. It's a win-win for everyone. And I bet Aunt Sally would rather hear you donated that $45 instead of buying her that horrid rayon-polyester sweater you get her every year (and that she returns as soon as she can!).

What a Scoundrel Wants
Well, Ann is holding a HUGE contest over at her place. But she's not doing this to promote her own books. Oh, no. She's doing it for author Carrie Lofty, author of What A Scoundrel Wants.
This is what she says:
To celebrate the upcoming debut of Carrie Lofty’s fabulous WHAT A SCOUNDREL WANTS I’m hosting a total blowout of a contest. For starters, I’m offering TWENTY (20) free copies of this book. If you win, you must promise to review it somewhere within a month of its release (that’s December 2). Amazon is fine if you don’t have a blog. Two lines on Shelfari is not. Now to make this even more interesting, I’m offering a bonus prize of a $50 gift certificate (to a bookstore, naturally!) if we hit a hundred (100) entries.
C'mon, gang. You can commit to reading this book and posting a review about it during the month of December. You're book bloggers (most of you); you do this stuff in your sleep!
You may need help figuring out Ann's widget, though. Of course, this is the sort of thing I have the Tour Manager for, so maybe it's just me.

Two Brothers: One North, One South
Lisa at Books on the Brain is a gem. She's sending me all sorts of news of contests today (although she better watch out or we'll give her the keys to the blog and let her post herself!).
Now, she's pointed me to Kathleen's Book Reviews and a copy of Two Brothers: One North, One South, written by David H. Jones. How have we not known about Kathleen before? She's got an interview with Mr. Jones and everything. (I haven't read it yet, so I can't call it fantastic. Yet.)
This contest is open worldwide, and you'll get an autographed copy of a very intriguing-sounding book. (yes, I talk in double -ing words frequently. Why do you ask?) The deadline is November 31, but since there isn't a November 31 on the calendar, let's just remind you guys not to dawdle.

The Green Beauty Guide
Know why?
She dropped me an e-mail and asked me to let you guys know not only about another contest (one she's not hosting), but also about a new blogger, who's not quite found her footing yet. Lisa was hoping for some good, old-fashioned West of Mars love thrown at Amanda, who hosts Life and Times of a "New" New Yorker.
(Hey, wait a minute. I've been to her blog before!)
Anyway, Amanda's got a copy of The Green Beauty Guide, written by Julie Gabriel. I can't decide if this no-nonsense look at beauty products and our skin is scary or a must-read. Maybe it's both. All I know is that I'd sure like to read it.
You can enter the contest through November 30. And even if you don't, go say hi to Amanda.

At any rate, HipWriterMama has conducted a really fantastic interview* with Melissa Walker, so check it out and leave her a fashion tip. Leave one for me, too, 'cause I'm walking around with super glue on my pinky nail... don't ask!
This is a fast contest, so get over there by late tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

*Yes, I know I say that about them all, but that's because I only mention the really fantastic ones. It's called Selective Omission. I like it.

Now, how is that for book love? I'm all weepy-eyed.
Oh, wait. There's something in my contact. Hold on...
Okay, now that we can all see properly, be sure to check out bermudaonion's review. She's got a great insight into the value of this book. Yes, I'm going to make you read it for yourself.
I'm mean like this.
So are the mailing restrictions, sad to say, but the books will be coming from Hachette. And by now, I hope we all know what that means -- no PO Boxes and US/Canada addresses only.
Use this link before Friday, November 28. Which happens to be the day after Thanksgiving.
Yup, it's all about food. 'Cause, you know, books... they don't taste so good. They're food for your brain, not your mouth.

Free Whiskey Eats!
Rest. Relax. Take a few deep breaths. Whiskey Eats is the title of a cookbook put together by the authors published by Whiskey Creek Press. The e-book is free through December (what a great reason to ask for the Sony eReader, of which I'm a big fan, for Christmas!), and the paperback edition is discounted.
Check it out. This link will send you to my good friend Tilly Greene's blog, and from there, you can click through to buy the book. Say hi to Tilly when you stop in.

Novel Adventures
She's working with CBS.com and their new webcast, called Novel Adventures. And she's got NINE books to give you -- and what a varied assortment!
I'd list them all, but you wouldn't believe me. Go on over to Booking Mama's site to see for yourself.
You have until December 2. Entrants are limited to someone who can accept "domestic shipping."
I hope there are no livestock involved in that shipping thing.
Go check it out via this link. It's cool.

The Book of Lilith, Janeology, Inquest on Imhotep, Escape
Anyway, one just posted for The Book of Lilith by Robert G. Brown. Amazing book I read back in February, and the author has graciously provided a giveaway copy!
If kick-ass chicks and the Garden of Eden aren't your thing, I'm also giving away a copy of Karen Harrington's Janeology. Who is to blame when a mother attempts to murder her own children?
And Barbara wasn't too fond of Inquest on Imhotep by Derek Adie Flower, but she's hoping someone else will enjoy it. If you like Egyptology, give this one a try.
Don't forget author Rye James is sending a lucky reader a copy of Escape. Check out his guest blog to learn about Escape and his western, The Assassin.
Whew! I didn't realize I had so many books to give away! I'll see you over at Breeni Books!
Scattered Leaves
Get this. The book she's sharing is Richard Roach's Scattered Leaves. Serena compares it to a James Patterson novel. No kidding!
Read all about it -- and stop back tomorrow (Tuesday) for an interview with the author. Today, though, is all about contest entry. You have until November 21, and Serena LIKES to mail internationally.
(Serena might also kill me for saying that, so if Susan goes missing for a long period, you know why)

Amanda won a copy of Nefertiti. (she didn't tell us where, just that she won)
Lisa won a copy of Gods Behaving Badly. She didn't leave us any links, though.
Congratulations to Amanda and Lisa!
Like I said, speak up (and include any links you want us to post) and we'll mention you here when things slow down. Also, keep those contest e-mails coming in via the handy dandy Win a Book e-mail. Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe
Thankfully, I have Shana in my reader, so I can tell you guys about this.
Author Jennie Shortridge has stopped in at Literarily to guest blog about the power of women who read. I like Ms. Shortridge already. And that was BEFORE I read her most excellent post, which talks about a philosophy I've been bringing to my own book club for years now.
Shana's provided us a TON of links before getting to the giveaway. There's no reason you can't know a lot about Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe before entering the contest (or buying your own copy).
The contest is open until 21 November, and Ms. Shortridge has offered a signed copy of her latest novel. There are no mailing restrictions indicated, but you might want to indicate when you leave your e-mail address if you're not in the US or Canada. Just to be nice. Just like Shana is.

Katie Brown Celebrates
No, that's the title of the beautiful party book that Lisa at Book Ahoy is giving away. It's got recipes and crafts--everything you need for year round entertaining. Lisa even tried the Honey Spiced Almond recipe, and she's posted a picture of the result for you. She has FIVE copies to give away, so get your comment on!
For an entry, leave a comment at Book Ahoy by November 22. There are multiple ways to win, so read over the fine print while you're there. Open to US and Canadian residents.
House of Daughters
If you can get past the hypnotic allure of her header, scroll on down to the latest giveaway. Some lucky reader will get a copy of House of Daughters by Sarah-Kate Lynch.
For an entry, leave a comment at S. Krishna's Books by Sunday, November 23rd. You'll need to tell her your favorite book set in a different country to qualify. Open to US and Canadian residents.
Pretty Monsters
Regardless, Book Chatter is giving away a copy of Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link. It's a teen fantasy novel that I'm itching to throw an entry in for. It sounds amazing!
For an entry, leave a comment at Book Chatter by Sunday, November 30th. While you're there, see how you can grab a second entry. Open to US and Canadian residents.
Broad Street
All you need to do is leave a comment at Peeking Between the Pages for an entry, but there are a few ways you can score extra entries, as well. Winner to be drawn on November 22, so get your entry in ahead of time!
The House on Tradd Street
Write for a Reader is giving away a copy of The House on Tradd Street by Karen White. There is a little bit of everything in this novel: romance, ghosts, mystery, and Civil War lore. This seems to be a theme today, doesn't it? Anyway, the novel is set in Charleston, South Carolina, a notoriously haunted city of historical preservation. Shelly loved it, and that's why she wants to share it with another reader.
For an entry, leave a comment at Write for a Reader before November 18th. That's the day she's going to draw a winner. There are several ways to earn extra entries, but this one is open to US residents only.
That Night in Paris
Visit her blog for a little teaser, a short story titled That Night in Paris, courtesy of Scarlet Magazine.
Warning: this story is explicit, as Saskia is a very skilled author of erotica. Reader discretion is advised.
Two Brothers-One North, One South
However, you do have a chance to win a copy of Two Brothers-One North, One South by David H. Jones. It's historical fiction set during the Civil War, and A Real Librarian says you can learn a lot from it. She reviewed it for TLC Blog Tours, and now she's giving her copy away.
You have until Sunday, November 23rd to leave a comment at Confessions of a Real Librarian for your entry. Open to US residents.
Public Service Announcement:
Over at Today.com, she's launched a new blog that's intended to be as much of a resource as Win a Book. What she's doing is providing a questionnaire to book bloggers who are open to reviewing books. Even if you're not a pure book blogger, if you'd be open to hosting an author's guest post, to being part of a giveaway, or doing a review, this is a resource you'll want to be part of.
She's asking participants to fill out a questionnaire that's pretty comprehensive: what genre do you like? Will you review self-published books? Do you host guest blog posts? Are you an interviewing maven? And more!
The idea here is that book bloggers are gaining more weight and influencing more and more decisions about what readers buy when they walk through the doors of that local independent where the staff knows your name (sorta like Cheers, only without the hangover the next day). This sort of resource will allow authors, publicists, and promotion people to better target potential partners in promotion.
It's a waste of everyone's time when you're contacted about an end of the world novel, but you loathe them so badly that when your husband brings one home, you use it to toast marshmallows.
This is meant to be a way to cut some of those unnecessary e-mails out of your lives, so that you can focus on the books you'll love (or expect to love) the most.
Here's the link! Come be involved, everyone!

Gods Behaving Badly
Yep, five more copies of Gods Behaving Badly can be yours if you visit Luanne at A Bookworm's World. You have until November 29, and yep, this is a US/Canada only contest, with no PO Boxes allowed.

Slash by Slash
In fact, I really like this one, because it sort of fits with my latest post over at my personal blog. Sort of.
You see, Harper Entertainment, the publisher, has teamed up with Gibson Guitars (drool) to bring one lucky winner an autographed copy of Slash by Slash. You remember Slash, right? Wooly black hair in his eyes that's held in place with a black top hat? Guitar genius for Guns 'n Roses in their late 1980s heyday and now the soulful sound behind Velvet Revolver?
Speaking of Velvet Revolver, if you win this contest, not only will you win the autographed book but you'll also get an autographed CD of the Revolver's latest release, Libertad. Nine runners-up will get a mere copy of the book and the CD.
You can be sure this is one contest Susan didn't think twice about entering. Now if she can only figure out how to fix it so she's one of those lucky ten... Or if Slash would stop by her personal blog for that one-question promo post Susan digs so much...
On I dream, in the first person this time. Come keep my entry company by submitting one of your own. And when you win and I don't, you can laugh at me.
Use this link to enter by November 30.
