Free Comic Book Day!
Nope.
It's also Free Comic Book Day.
Read all about it here, and use the store locator. Comics for adults, comics for kids... they've got it all (titles may vary by location, I've learned). Check it out -- especially if you know any children who are reluctant readers (The horror! I know!). Comics are a great way to turn a reluctant reader into ... one of us. Book fiends.

This Week at Stone Soup...
From her blog:
I’m offering two books, to go to two different people. These are both books I couldn’t wait to get and ate up within two days of receiving. Though they are dramatically different, I loved them both, and I’ll write a more complete review in the next day or two.
The books are:
Something About Her by Jeannie Ruesch. This is a category romance set in the Regency period, but Jeannie had me convinced there was no possible way she would pull off the happy-ever-ending romance requires. I was heartbroken too because I adored both the main characters and really wanted the fairy-tale ending for them. But … no spoilers, right? ;-)
Tender Graces by Kathryn Magendie. This one’s more literary, about a girl who escapes her rough West Virginia mountain childhood and returns as an adult to find things were not quite as she remembered them. An exquisite book that shows an obscure culture with a brutal honesty mingled with gentleness.

Public Service Announcement:
So... it seems like a good time to give you a heads-up as to a major change that'll be happening over here. With the Win a Book first birthday approaching on May 5, the Tour Manager and I have been working on moving this here blog over to my West of Mars platform.
We're not ready yet; there's a ways to go. I'll need someone to build us a header, too, hopefully for free. (Anyone?) And the blogroll! I've got ideas that'll be a lot of fun for all of us -- once we're there.
Consider this your call to attention. The change WILL be happening. You'll have plenty of notice and some of you may be called on to check things out as it evolves and grows.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled book fun...

Too Hot to Handle
No?
Okay, that's the name of the book she's got to share with everyone today. Before you get there, though, check out the guest post by author Robin Kaye. It's all about how she creates characters. I totally relate to what she's got to say.
You can also read the book's blurb and follow the link to Dar's review.
As for the give, after all this goodness, Dar is giving away her own gently read copy of not only Too Hot to Handle but also Ms. Kaye's first book, Romeo, Romeo.
Since the books are coming from Dar and since Dar's obviously wealthy or something, she's opened this contest to international friends as well as her fellow Canucks.
You have until May 14. Use this link.

Live and In Person!
(I'd like to mention I've never even HEARD of North Richland Hills, Texas, so if you know the area, pop over to The Meet and Greet and tell me about it, okay?)
You may want to get yourself over to North Richland Hills, Texas on May 9. Why?
Big author signing. I love group author signings.
Here's who'll be there:
Candace Havens
Karen Kelley
Jax Cassidy
Cindy Dees
Amie Stuart
Karen Whiddon
Juliet Burns
Celya Bowers
Never heard of them? It's time to fix that. Go meet them. There will be a tea at noon, followed by a discussion and signing at 1.
Where, you ask?
Barnes & Noble at the North East Mall.
A percentage of the profits from door prizes will be donated to the Bedford Public Library.
SO. You can meet new authors and explore their fictional worlds and buy their books. AND you can do a good deed by throwing in for the door prizes and helping out the local library.
If only I had an unlimited travel budget (and time), I'd so be there.
Why don't you go as my representative?

The Girl Who Stopped Swimming
Okay, she wrote a book that has nothing to do with me, but the title sure fits. Me. And the book, I'm sure. No self-respecting editor would send a book into the world with an ill-fitting title.
Dar at Peeking Between the Pages has five copies of this latest from Ms. Jackson. She's also got two parts of a video interview with the author, herself, for you to watch. AND a link to her review. Wow, Dar. THAT is being thorough.
Entering to win won't require as much, I'm glad to say. Check out the rules -- but I'll warn you now. This is restricted to non-PO Box holders in the US and Canada, like is getting to be the norm around here.
You have until April 29. Use this link.
