Any Given Doomsday
Here's a little bit about the book:
Elizabeth Phoenix once used her unique skills as a psychic to help in
the Milwaukee Police Department’s fight against injustice. But when
Liz’s foster mother is found viciously murdered—and Liz is discovered
unconscious at the scene—her only memory of the crime comes in the form
of terrifying dreams...of creatures more horrific than anything Liz has
seen in real life. What do these visions mean? And what in the world do
they have to do with her former lover, Jimmy Sanducci?
While the police question Jimmy in the murder, Jimmy opens Liz’s eyes
to a supernatural war that has raged since the dawn of time in which
innocent people are hunted by malevolent beings disguised as humans.
Only a chosen few have the ability to fight their evil, and Jimmy
believes Liz is among them. Now, with her senses heightened, new
feelings are rising within Liz—ones that re-ignite her dangerous
attraction to Jimmy. But Jimmy has a secret that will rock Liz to her
core…and put the survival of the human race in peril.

War for the Oaks, written by Emma Bull.
Holy smoke, what a fantastic read.
If you're not registered, do so. (Although I'm a little miffed they seem to have lost mine. Okay, more than a little.)
It's the best book you'll read in a LONG time.

Matthew Stover Set
This time, it's Matthew Stover's Heroes Die and Caine Black Knife. (Wow, those are disparate titles... or so they seem. Read what FBC has to say about them and it'll make sense.)
Maybe if enough people grab onto these installments, someone will feel it's a good idea to put the first back into print?
We can hope.

The Reality Dysfunction
I couldn't say it better, myself, so in Pat's own words...
The North American editions of all three volumes of Peter F. Hamilton's The Night's Dawn trilogy were all split into two installments when they were initially released. Finally, Orbit is re-issuing each volume as one single trade paperback edition, beginning with The Reality Dysfunction. This series put Hamilton on the map and led him to become the bestselling science fiction author in the UK.
Follow Pat's entry directions carefully so you don't get disqualified.

This Week at Stone Soup...
The first is Martha O'Connor's The Bitch Posse. I studied fiction with Mr. Martha (around the time they were hooking up, too) and I've heard nothing but good things about Martha herself -- and her fiction. A definite must-have.
The other is a book I know nothing about, so when you win, be sure to tell me everything I need to fix that. It's Lost in the Forest, by Sue Miller.
Hey, I sort of like her name.
Anyway, you have until Sunday to enter. Get on it!

In Search of Silence
If you follow my main blog, you'll know I sometimes post poetry under the guise of a dude named Roadie Poet. In short, I dig poetry.
So, apparently, does my friend Penelope, whose blog Library at the END of the Universe is hosting this giveaway.
This is a single-author collection of poems. (As opposed to an anthology, where there are more than one contributor. You get the idea.) The author's name is Chris Roe. Remember that now.
The only downside is that this contest is only open to the US and Canada. (Stupid shipping prices -- bring back surface mail!) You have until the 30th of September, but you're not going to wait. Not when there are many cool ways to earn entries, one of which could very well include my own Roadie Poet.
(not bad for some shameless plugging, huh?)
Enter via this link. You'll be glad you did. Chris Roe writes better poems than I do.

The Professors' Wives' Club
I got an e-mail just now that our name was passed on by another Win a Book regular. Thanks, guys. Personal referrals make us feel like a million bucks.
Redlady at Redlady's Reading Room has only been blogging for a few months now, but she knows how to make a splash: she got author Joanne Rendell to donate an autographed copy of Ms. Rendell's new books, The Professors' Wives' Club.
Redlady may be new to blogging, but she's savvy. Her review is right below the contest, and she provides a link to the author's website. Nice moves, both -- the more information we readers have about a book and an author, the better able we are to judge if this is up our alley (although I see time and again that many of you are pleasantly surprised by some of the books you encounter. More power to you guys for that!).
This is a US/Canada only contest, due to shipping costs. (Really, when will the Post Office realize that all that talk of the world being one isn't just hype?)
You have until Sunday September 21. Check Redlady's blog for ways to earn extra chances to win; one of them is really quite interesting.

The Lace Reader
She's got an ARC copy (HER ARC copy, if you keep track of things like that) of The Lace Reader, by Brunonia Barry to pass along. Keep it moving, you know...
But she'd like to spark some discussion, so, in her own words...
In the past I have kept entries pretty simple but this time I am asking something of you, dear reader. I currently live in West Virginia, it wasn't always my home but it is my place of birth and "where I'm from", so I have always had an interest in Appalachian regional literature. So to enter in this giveaway I would like for you to tell me about a book that you read and enjoyed that is set in Appalachia. If you can't remember or haven't read a book that is set in Appalachia then you can go through my widget on the right called "Appalachian Regional Lit." and choose one of those that you would be interested in reading and tell me why.
Being from outside Pittsburgh, Susan is obliged to make a West Virginia joke. But she's seen too much beautiful land in that state, so it ain't gonna happen. (So long as the WVU students don't drag their couches into the street and set them on fire again).
This is, regrettably, a US-only contest. You have until September 30.
And check out the cool map!

Broken
It's our friend Dar at Peeking Between the Pages you need to concern yourself with (as opposed to me and my brain. Totally not worth your time), as she's got a cool give she e-mailed us about.
And whoa. Dar is totally into the author of Broken, a man named Daniel Clay. As this is his debut novel, let's hope that enough people talk about Mr. Clay so that he gets lots of chances to publish more great books.
She wants to help make that happen, so she has TEN copies of Broken to share. Ten, ladies and gentlemen. That's quite generous on the part of ... whoever was kind enough to donate these books.
Dar is also kind enough to provide lots of links, so that you can follow them and catch her enthusiasm about Mr. Clay and his book.
You have until 20 September to check it all out and enter. Yep, there are chances of multiple entries but you can only win once. US and Canada only, please!

The Choice/The Almost Moon
She's got TWO cool titles -- and five copies of each. That means ten books! (Right? Two times five... Uhhh... fingers... yeah. Ten.)
The titles aren't exactly obscure, either. They are The Choice, the new one from Nicholas Sparks, and The Almost Moon, Alice Sebold's new novel.
This is another giveaway sponsored by Hachette, so that means US and Canada only, and no PO Boxes (they need to get over that, eh?).
You have until September 30. Wow. That's, like, 20 days. (Uhh... fingers...) This contest will NOT take you 20 days to enter (assuming my math is right, which is always questionable).
Be sure to tell Anna which title you want -- or if you're greedy and want both. She won't mind. She said you could ask.

After the Fire
Cheryl's got her review posted right there for you to check out. This sounds like a moving but heavy book -- it deals with the fire in the residence halls at Seton Hall University a few years back.
