Happy Holloween! What better way to celebrate than to announce a new "treat" for my readers, Requiem for the Autor of Frankenstein by Molly Dwyer.

As with all my book giveaways, I have a question for you. It's #4 on the list of rules. If you don't asnwer #4, your comment won't be posted and won't count as an entry.

Contest runs from today through December 1st at 11PM Pacific Time
Winner will be notified via email at 11PM on the day the contest ends have 3 days to respond with a mailing address. If no response is received in that time, a new winner will be picked.
Open to the entire world.
To qualify you must tell me about your favorite horror novel. Give me the title and author and a short explanation or description.
For extra credit you can:

Anna's not the only busy one this week (see post below if you're not following me). Serena over at Savvy Verse and Wit is, too.

She's got a copy of Lydia Bennet's Story, written by Jane Odiwe. Well, actually, she's got two again: her own gently-read ARC for an international friend, and a new copy from the publisher for a US or Canada person who doesn't have a PO Box.

Serena's cool to be doing this, so be sure to mention where you live when you enter. Don't assume... you know that old saying Ass + You + Me = Assume. Go on and tell her, even if you're the next door neighbor (and if you are, you should have already borrowed Serena's ARC copy and returned it by now! Shana at Literarily is hopping lately, too. I really admire you book bloggers; you guys have lots of things going on and you don't drown in it all. And then there's me...

Anyway, Shana's fun today is a copy of the book A Jolly Good Fellow, written by Stephen V. Masse. It was actually published WAY back in 2007 (does your memory stretch that far back?), but sort of like the Internet, it doesn't matter when something appears. A good read is a good read. Besides, this one has a nice holiday theme to it without, as Shana says, resorting to the usual holiday cliches.

Anna over at Diary of an Eccentric dropped us a note, quite thankfully. She's got a cool interview with author Jane Odiwe up, in conjunction with her previous review of Ms. Odiwe's new book, Lydia Bennet's Story.

And to make it a cool multi-day event, Anna's got a copy of the book to share. It's coming directly from publisher Sourcebooks, so this is restricted to US and Canada addresses only (although they seem friendlier to PO Boxes than certain ... other... publishers. I hope that's truly the case).

Breeni and I have been discussing the idea of posting the winnings of our Win a Book readers. From time to time, you've told us that you've won something.

We like to celebrate, Breeni and I (and everyone else, too. I think Bridget is baking cookies for the party.). Which means we ought to celebrate the success we have in finding great new reads.

To get things started, here are some books that have come our way lately...

Breeni won "that Star Wars book she was trying to win."

Yeah, that's a quote from her e-mail to me. 'Nuff said, there...

And me, I won a copy of the new David Liss book, The Whiskey Rebels, from LisaLynne at Minds Alive on the Shelves. Whee! I love David Liss. When my book club read his Conspiracy of Paper, Mr. Liss and I e-mailed about it a bit. Nice guy.

Today's trip to the old PO Box turned out to be rather interesting, too. Waiting for me was a book from St. Martin's Press. No note. Just a book and a catalog from the MacMillan Publishers Reading Group Gold.

Now, I register my book club all over the place. I'm always on the lookout for new books to show my awesome group, and since we have a narrow focus (Jewish literature, or books by Jews that aren't necessarily about Jewish topics), any help I can get is welcome. I suspect that's how this book found me and it's certainly one I'd like to show the group, even though we try to stay away from the Holocaust. You know how it is... you get a group of people who are too closely related to a topic and they have a hard time reading about it.

ANYWAY, the book is Sarah's Key, the much-buzzed-about historical novel by Tatiana de Rosnay. I'm excited to have it here. Hopefully the group will feel the same.

Parnormal romance fans: just in time for Halloween, my review of Maria Lima's Matters of the Blood is up!

Matters of the Blood is filled with plot twists and artful surprises. Lima builds incredible suspense and allows the reader to savor each revelation. The story is paced well, with fully developed characters and a host of supernatural beings.

Icedream over at Reading in Appalachia dropped into our inbox just now. Seems she's got a copy of Paul of Dune, the brand-new fill-in book in the legendary Dune series. (For those of you keeping track at home, this fills in the time between Dune and Dune Messiah.)

Yeah, yeah, I struggled through the movie, too. At least I can say I did it or else fail out of college. What's YOUR excuse?

The books are better, and since this was written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, there's no reason to expect the quality to suffer.

It's time for another contest. This one is a true crime book, Ring of Hell by Matthew Randazoo V. The usual rules are in place. I will delete all entries that don't answer the question (see #2).

Contest runs from today through November 16th at 11PM Pacific Time
Winner will be notified via email at 11PM on the day the contest ends have 3 days to respond with a mailing address. If no response is received in that time, a new winner will be picked.

Anna, over at Diary of An Eccentric (hey, wait a second. Didn't I rename that blog last time?), has a great interview and give. In fact, the first sentence of her post could almost have come from me. Except I took a different course in college and mostly it proved why I shouldn't have listened to that grad student who was being my advisor. Ouch.

Okay, I don't want to say too much here, but I have a lot of admiration for Stephen Donaldson. And Pat's Fantasy Hotlist is eager to help you see why.

He's got a complete set of the new UK edition of Stephen R. Donaldson's scifi masterpiece, The Gap, up for grabs, compliments of the kind folks at Gollancz. The sequence is comprised of The Real Story, Forbidden Knowledge (joined with the first volume in this edition), A Dark and Hungry God Arises, Chaos and Order, and This Day All Gods Die.

Whoa. Pat says this is the best Donaldson to date. Better than Thomas Convenant?

Diary of an Eccentric is proving to be ... well, not eccentric in her interview of author Lesley Dorman. In fact, she's showing off a not-small amount of skill. Check it out.

And when you get to the bottom, you just might notice a contest for this novel made up of short stories (we need a name for these sorts of books 'cause they're not a novel and they're not entirely independent stories, either. Hmmm.). It's a contest that seems to have no geographical restrictions and has a deadline of October 18.
