Public Service Announcement:
Feel free to send any left over peanut butter cups to Susan. Yep, that's the secret ingredient that makes her posts so much fun.
Be safe out there tonight... and happy reading!
(Stop on over at Susan's main blog to see what REALLY gets her all wound up. Nope, not peanut butter and chocolate, two great tastes that taste great together! The link's in the sidebar.)

Lydia Bennet's Story
She's got a copy of Lydia Bennet's Story, written by Jane Odiwe. Well, actually, she's got two again: her own gently-read ARC for an international friend, and a new copy from the publisher for a US or Canada person who doesn't have a PO Box.
Serena's cool to be doing this, so be sure to mention where you live when you enter. Don't assume... you know that old saying Ass + You + Me = Assume. Go on and tell her, even if you're the next door neighbor (and if you are, you should have already borrowed Serena's ARC copy and returned it by now! What are you doing entering a contest when you had such easy access to the book?).
Use this link before November 7.

Jesus Take the Wheel
Now she's got a copy of Jesus Take the Wheel, written by Stuart Migdon. She's got some interesting things to say about it, and has gotten permission to post an essay from Mr. Migdon, as well. Sounds interesting, very interesting.
This contest is open world-wide. 'Cause, you know, Anna rocks. (She's sending me leftover Halloween candy to say thanks for that plug, too.)

A Jolly Good Fellow
Anyway, Shana's fun today is a copy of the book A Jolly Good Fellow, written by Stephen V. Masse. It was actually published WAY back in 2007 (does your memory stretch that far back?), but sort of like the Internet, it doesn't matter when something appears. A good read is a good read. Besides, this one has a nice holiday theme to it without, as Shana says, resorting to the usual holiday cliches.

Winning at Win a Book
We like to celebrate, Breeni and I (and everyone else, too. I think Bridget is baking cookies for the party.). Which means we ought to celebrate the success we have in finding great new reads.
To get things started, here are some books that have come our way lately...
Breeni won "that Star Wars book she was trying to win."
Yeah, that's a quote from her e-mail to me. 'Nuff said, there...
And me, I won a copy of the new David Liss book, The Whiskey Rebels, from LisaLynne at Minds Alive on the Shelves. Whee! I love David Liss. When my book club read his Conspiracy of Paper, Mr. Liss and I e-mailed about it a bit. Nice guy.
Today's trip to the old PO Box turned out to be rather interesting, too. Waiting for me was a book from St. Martin's Press. No note. Just a book and a catalog from the MacMillan Publishers Reading Group Gold.
Now, I register my book club all over the place. I'm always on the lookout for new books to show my awesome group, and since we have a narrow focus (Jewish literature, or books by Jews that aren't necessarily about Jewish topics), any help I can get is welcome. I suspect that's how this book found me and it's certainly one I'd like to show the group, even though we try to stay away from the Holocaust. You know how it is... you get a group of people who are too closely related to a topic and they have a hard time reading about it.
ANYWAY, the book is Sarah's Key, the much-buzzed-about historical novel by Tatiana de Rosnay. I'm excited to have it here. Hopefully the group will feel the same.
There ya go... two, maybe three winners here at the Win a Book hub. Have you won anything? Gotten your picture taken with an author because of an appearance we've told you about?
If you've gotten turned onto something new because of us, we want to know about it.

The Dangerous Joy of Dr. Sex
Book Review and Giveaway: "The Dangerous Joy of Dr. Sex"by Pagan Kennedy via Bookroomreviews's Weblog.
Nonfiction is the new black comedy in this hilarious collection of award-winning literary essays written by the infamous Pagan Kennedy. In the title piece, Alex Comfort, author of "The Joy of Sex", reinvents himself as a sex guru in California and hatches a plan to destroy monogamy forever. In the stories that follow, a retired chemist finds a way to turn a wasteland into paradise, an aspiring tyrant tries to become the emperor of America, and an artist rigs himself up to a “brain machine” made from parts he bought at Radio Shack. All of the essays—most of which have appeared in The New York Times Magazine and The Boston Globe Magazine—document the stories of visionaries bent on remaking the world, for better or for worse.
At Bookroomreviews, click on the book cover to read their review. If this sounds like a book you would like, they have an extra copy from the Santa Fe Writer's Project to share!
All you need do to enter is leave a comment and they will draw a winner on October 14th

A Grave in the Air
Serena, over at Savvy Verse and Wit, sent me this e-mail about it:
About the book:
These are short stories that show how war can impact families, relationships, and societies. Although the short stories often do not provide the reader with in-depth war strategy and in-the-moment events, whether it is World War II or the Bosnian-Serbian conflict of the 1990s, the impact of war is palatable in the lives of the characters Henighan created.
About the contest:
Dear Readers, I would love to give away my copy of A Grave in the Air by Stephen Henighan to one lucky winner. Please leave a comment here if you wish to enter the contest.
