Red Room's Summer Reading Giveaway
This contest involves registering on their site and leaving them a story, a poem, an anecdote, a podcast... what have you. It must feature a favorite summer reading experience. So it's not quite as easy as some of the others floating around out there, but it could be a lot of fun to sort through those memories you've got (and are hopefully making) and share one with the readers of Red Room.
Enter via this link. Good luck!

Rock N Read Benefit
I had this idea for a “literary Lollapalooza” of sorts, where bands and authors would share the stage. Alexa Young signed on to help, and this is what resulted.
So, if you happen to be in the L.A. area on July 13th from 3 to 6 pm, you’ll want to swing by Virgin Megastore at 6801 Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood to take in musical performances by Lucid Nation, Noah Stone, Norfolk, Dirty Spanglish, and Moth Eaten and readings by N.L. Belardes, Cherry Cheva, Megan Crane, Kim Culbertson, Stephanie Kuehnert, Alyson Noël, Rebecca Woolf and Alexa Young.
If you’re not in California, there are still many ways that you can be involved. You can grab a banner from our website and help us spread the word. And if you are an author or musician, we are offering a unique promotional opportunity. Our event is free, but we’d like to raise money for Virgin Unite Charities so we are raffling off five identical prize packs. If you’d like to donate five (signed if possible) copies of your book, CDs, or other promotional items, we would love to have them! Contact me at stephanie at stephaniekuehnert dot com if you’re interested! I can’t tell you how excited I am about this amazing event!
(Although this is pretty shamelessly lifted from Caren Johnson's blog, I did it because I think it's a great thing to be involved with. I hope some of you will help out, too.)
The Memory of Water
But go on and read her thoughtful review. It's really wonderful.]
You have until June 30, and it's only for folk in the US and Canada. Darn postal rates...
Here is the link.
Driving Sideways by Jess Riley
After posting a review of Jess Riley's Driving Sideways, Julie was lucky enough to land an interview with Ms. Riley -- and to entice you to read it, she's offering a signed copy of Driving Sideways. You shouldn't need the enticement; it's another good interview. (Because we try to politely overlook any bad ones, you see.)
You only have until this Friday, so don't dawdle. Use this link.
David Weber
This time, it's a set of books from David Weber. Two sets, in fact, to North American people only. The books are Off Armageddon Reef and By Schism Rent Asunder, both from the author’s Safehold series.
Pretty cool! Use this link to enter.
George Carlin
Read the directions; she wants you to talk about Carlin. But if you have a good pork chop recipe, I'm sure she'd appreciate it. (and yes, I totally made that last part up.)
Natasha Rhodes Interview and Contest
There's a question Amber would like you answer in order to enter the contest. Have some fun with it -- and the interview as well!

Scott Douglas experiments with wikis
A few years ago, I wrote a little book called The Library Tree. It is a whimsical library folktale of sorts, and now I'm giving it away! Some of you have already bought and read this book, and I thank you for your support; there's still a couple bound copies left, and if you'd really like one, then go to my Web store and buy it...but honestly, I'd be happier if you simply download and read it free and told all your friends about it!
The book is also licensed under the Creative Commons; you can edit it, change it, rewrite it...basically do whatever you want to it. The only thing you can't do is sell it for profit.
Why am I doing this? Call it an experiment, really. Plenty of people have started non-fiction Wiki efforts. How many people have started wiki fiction books? And this is the perfect book to start it with--it's short and it's a folktale (and folktales are frequently changed as they're passed down through the ages).
I'm thinking this is a very cool idea. Watching it should be fascinating.
Read more about it at Scott's blog.

Your pick!
I am hosting my first contest on my blog. My blog is called Reading In Appalachia. I have decided that I have neglected my growing collection of books that I keep planning to read. So I am posting a link to my bookshelf and my blog readers can look through it, find a book they would like to have and leave me a comment with the title. I will randomly select from the comments, read that book and then send it to the winner. Right now the contest ends on June 25th, winner announced June 26th. If it seems like people are enjoying it I may have it as a monthly thing. Right now I am just testing the waters with the first contest.
Go on and help turn it into a success! You and Icedream can read some really cool stuff, and isn't that part of what book communities are all about?

Not only is Sarah Strohmeyer a Book Tart, I met her briefly at RT. Lovely lady. She deserves a lot of attention and success. Let's help her achieve it, shall we?
Anyone up for a Scavenger Hunt?
Lots of prizes -- but a lot of work, also. Still, if that's what it takes to discover new authors, I'm all for it.
Good luck, and happy hunting!
Quick! To Book Haven with you!
You only have until Friday, June 6, so move fast. And sorry but once again, the giveaway is limited to US and Canada. Leave her a comment, or link back to her post and get a second entry.
I have this one on my TBR, myself. Nyssaneala rated it a 4.5 stars out of 5. With recommendations like that, what are you waiting for?
Over at a Book Blogger's Diary...
It's David Baldacci's The Whole Truth. Two copies, in fact, for US and Canadian folks only. (Sorry everyone else!)
There's a hoop to jump through -- you have to leave a link to a book blog. Now, now, no panic allowed: You've got six in front of you. Not only can you leave a link to Win A Book (that'd be the blog you're currently reading), but you can link to any of us who host this place. I, of course, prefer anything with the West of Mars name on it, but I probably won't check up on you and hunt you down and ... umm...
Yeah.
You get the point. Six easy links for you... and that's before you go troll our blogroll...

Over at BookRoomReviews...
This is another new one to me. It's The Safety of Secrets, by Delaune Michel. This copy is an ARC -- Advance Reader's Copy -- and be sure to click on the book cover to read the review. After all, how else will you know if it's something you want to read?
