Signora Da Vinci

Over at Age 30+ a Lifetime of Books, the one-question interview that I so love pops up -- and is it a doozy!

The victim, such as it is, is author Robin Maxwell, author of Signora Da Vinci. And does she do justice to this one not-so-simple question! Wow!

At the end of the answer is a giveaway for a copy of Signora Da Vinci. You have to weigh in with your own thoughts, but c'mon. You're up for this challenge!

The contest is open anywhere that will cost less than $20 to mail to; if you're not sure, Google US Postal Rates.

You have until February 13, so get busy!

Birthday Bash Giveaway

What's this? Heather at Age 30, a Year of Books was going to shut down her blog?

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm glad she came to her senses. So what if she's going to be 31 and the year will be over? When you've got a good thing, don't stop. Sometimes, going out on the top is overrated.

To celebrate her birthday, she's got a slew of books. I've read some of them and they are good picks.

Ready for the list?

Cane River, by Lalita Tademy (Susan loved this so much, she keeps buying used copies to share with people)

Why the Wind Blows, by Matthys Levy

The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd (Why spend money on the movies when you can have the book? Everyone knows the book's always better!)

The Lost Diary of Don Juan, by Douglas Carlton Abrams

My Seven Years in Captivity, by Bill Seaton (No, this has nothing to do with being a POW or something)

House of Splendid Isolation, by Edna O'Brien

The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver (another fave of Susan's; this book is oddly compelling)

Bedlam South, by Mark Grisham and David Donaldson

Imagining Argentina, by Lawrence Thornton

Wow. That's quite a list, huh? Be sure to let Heather know what your top two picks are. Go on a limb. Try something different.

Matrimony

From Heather at Age 30+. Here's your chance to win a signed paperback copy of Joshua Henkin's Matrimony!

This New York Times Notable book is all over the blogosphere right now.

To enter the contest, post a comment on the Age 30+ post letting Heather know which cover you like better, toothbrushes or shoes. The toothbrushes are the hardcover and the shoes are the paperback. The winner gets the paperback ... Heather just wants to know which cover is more appealing to you.

Enter the contest at Age 30+ here.

Genuine Men

Heather at Age 30, a Year of Books has a cool contest going on right now. Not only is she giving away a review copy of Genuine Men, she's asking you to spend a few minutes leaving her a comment about a special man you know. (and to read the comments left by others.)

This is a fabulous idea. I mean, we like to dig on our men. It's fun.

But it's also fun to appreciate them, too.

The contest will remain open until 2 September. Start thinking of the cool men in your life. Dads, husbands, kids, cousins, the boy next door... there's got to be one.
