The Demo Tapes: Year 1

Dawn at She is Too Fond of Books has a great giveaway going on right now. She's very excited about it, in fact. So excited she's posted a picture tempting me to tip my hand about an upcoming adventure I have on my horizon.

But, nope. Not gonna do it...

Instead, I'm going to tell you to head over to She is Too Fond of Books. Dawn's giving away a copy of ShapeShifter: The Demo Tapes: Year 1 to one of you lucky folk. Yeah, if you're keeping track, that's the book written by yours truly, Susan Helene Gottfried, hostess of Win a Book.

Dawn's also got links to her review and an interview with Susan. Errr... me. I've been keeping an eye on the interview (and review) to say hello and respond to anything -- so talk to me, people!

Use this link before March 14. And because I'm a sucker (and paying almost nine bucks to ship outside of the US and Canada), this is an international contest.

Just 'cause I love ya.

Our friend Anna is handing over the controls at Diary of an Eccentric today for a guest blog post by Sharon Lathan, author of Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One.

Wow. That's a long title.

Sway

Think of all the beautiful things you can sway to: the natural rhythm all us moms get when we hold a newborn. Music. Our loved one's arms.

And a good book. Like Sway, written by Zachary Lazar.

Carol and her Notebook have five copies, compliments of the publisher to share with our friends in the US and Canada, but no PO Boxes, please. (That means no one with a PO Box address, not that Carol won't share these books with a postal box. Last I checked -- about an hour ago -- boxes can't read. At least, mine can't. Can yours?)

I'd love to read this, myself, with its rock and roll theme. Alas, I've got that PO Box problem.

Why don't you enter and tell me how it is? Maybe I'll actually *gasp* BUY it!

You have until March 6 to get your fun on and enter you instead of me. Use this link to do that.

Unfortunately, that new home has to be in the US or Canada only. Sorry, gang. You have until March 9, however, to use this link.

The Terror

More copies of The Terror! Just because we're not scared enough by world events -- or maybe because we ARE scared enough and so we need a good, old-fashioned literary terror to take our minds off it all. Dan Simmons is providing us with it.

Lisa at Books Ahoy is our gracious hostess for this set of copies of The Terror -- five copies, of course!

No PO Boxes, and US and Canada addresses only, please. You have until March 2.

My Little Red Book

Lisa at Books Ahoy has got five copies of My Little Red Book to share with you women out there. Or you men, if you'd like to know more about how us women function and why at times, we're a bit preoccupied with our bodies.

It's a book of short stories; you should know that going in. Not everyone likes the short form.

And it's a book with an agenda, too. But a potentially cool one. Definitely interesting.

This is for US and Canada friends, no PO Box addresses, please. You have until February 25, the day before the book's actual release in stores, to enter.

Good luck and use this link.

B&N Gift Certificate

Gena Showalter, who I haven't met yet but still think is pretty darn cool, is hoping you'll all help her talk about the release of her new book, The Vampire's Bride.

What you have to do is mention it (sort of like I'm doing) and shoot her the permalink, and she'll enter you into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to B&N -- that's Barnes and Noble -- AND any one book from her backlist.

How can you resist? You guys like to talk about books as much as I do!

Here's the link to Gena's blog.

Cleaning off the Shelves!

My good friend Nimrodiel is cleaning off her shelves to make room for my books.

What? I said NEW books, darn it! (besides, I currently only have one book out. Why? Cause you guys keep me busy here!)

She's got five books for you to choose from. To enter, all you need to do is tell her which you'd like and be sure to leave some contact information. (Saying, "Susan knows how to find me" does NOT count as contact information. Not unless you buy three copies of my book!)

Here are the books:
1. Inward to the Bones: Georgia O'Keefe's Journey with Emily Carr by Kate Braid
2. Near Death in the Arctic by Cecil Kuhne
3. Rusty Son of Tall Elk by Charles H. Bertram
4. The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke
5. The Courtier's Secret By Donna Russo Morin

Some are ARC copies, some aren't. Some are better read than others -- that's what happens when you're part of a community that shares books. But all are perfectly functional books. All the words are there, I promise. So are labels from BookCrossing, a favorite pasttime of mine. There's no obligation to join me in this fun, but the option's there if you'd like to exercise it.

You have until February 26, and Nim provides links to her reviews if you need to see what the book is about.

Happy shopping!

Clearing the Shelves

Now Serena at Savvy Verse and Wit has the cleaning bug. Do you guys think it's spring or something? (it's 65 degrees as I type this. That's warm for West of Mars in February. VERY warm.) She's citing Valentine's Day as the reason; she's sharing some book love.

I like that.

Serena's got some fun books that ought to be in high demand. Ready for her list?

1. Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich

2. The Memorist by M.J. Rose

3. The Sinner's Guide to Confession by Phyllis Schieber. This one is gently used.

4. 2 Copies of Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich.

There are links to her reviews of everything but Plum Lovin, which will be up shortly. And there are multiple and easy ways to win, including telling her where you saw this contest. Go on and drop my name. I like seeing it in print.

You have until ... there's nothing listed! So act fast!

--The Help by Kathryn Stockett
--Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell

Fade

Melissa Walker's got another one this week, as part of her ongoing Win It Wednesday fun.

This week, it's Fade, written by Lisa McMann. Please note, this is an ARC copy!

To win, you've got to tell Melissa what your favorite love song of THIS moment is. Whatever moment in which you sit down to spill it, that's your favorite. There are no wrong answers. (although For Whom the Bell Tolls might be a bit suspect, as it's about war and dying and that's not really love, although the images in the song are lovely. As lovely as songs about war and dying can be, anyway.)

Isn't Susan fun on cold medicine?

Cassandra and Jane -- with a Pride and Prejudice Bonus!

Dar at Peeking Between the Pages is facing more snow today. Can she send some to those poor people in Australia, do you think? I'm sure they'd appreciate the help with those wildfires.

But we're not here to talk fire. We're here to talk books, and Dar has her gently-used copy of Cassandra and Jane to give you. Written by Jill Pitkeathley, this book was just featured on the noontime book chats.

If you'd like Dar will throw in her used copy of Pride and Prejudice, too. Or she'll donate it to the library (but not to me even though I've never read it. If you haven't heard, I have TOO MANY books. Yes, it's possible. Come on over and see for yourself!)

Entering is easy-peasy and open to everyone around the world. You have until Wednesday, February 18.

So. Stop on by Booking Mama's cool blog and see what it's all about. Julie wrote a great review; how can you resist the book after words like these? (and then there's the book trailer and an interview, too. Talk about thorough!)

Celebrating African Americans Giveaway

Ahh, Hachette's at it again. Did you see my last post, where they are expanding the love of Valentine's Day into the month of March? Well, now they are expanding African-American history month into March as well. Fine by me; why do we take one month to celebrate people? Shouldn't we be doing it all year long?

Cheryl's Book Nook is helping break down this month-only thing. Partnering with Hachette Books, she's got these for you:

1. The American Journey of Barack Obama By The Editors of Life Magazine
2. Fledgling By Octavia Butler
3. Stand the Storm By Breena Clarke
4. Red River By Lalita Tademy
5. Keep the Faith: A Memoir By Faith Evans
6. Say You're One of Them By Uwem Akpan
7. The Shack By William Young
8. The Bishop's Daughter By Tiffany Warren

Ooh. That Lalita Tademy is on my wishlist... And Octavia Butler? A genius.

Good stuff on this list.

To enter, tell Cheryl who your favorite African-American writer is. Unfortunately, since the publisher's sucking up the postage costs, this is a US and Canada only contest, with no PO Boxes allowed.

There are other ways to enter, as well. Check it all out before March 27, via this link.

1. Love in 90 Days By Diana Kirschner
2. Sundays at Tiffany's By James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet
3. Free Yourself to Love By Jackie Kendall
4. The Italian Lover By Robert Hellenga

Signora Da Vinci

Over at Age 30+ a Lifetime of Books, the one-question interview that I so love pops up -- and is it a doozy!

The victim, such as it is, is author Robin Maxwell, author of Signora Da Vinci. And does she do justice to this one not-so-simple question! Wow!

At the end of the answer is a giveaway for a copy of Signora Da Vinci. You have to weigh in with your own thoughts, but c'mon. You're up for this challenge!

The contest is open anywhere that will cost less than $20 to mail to; if you're not sure, Google US Postal Rates.

You have until February 13, so get busy!

The Terror

Yes, we must help Dan Simmons take over the world! Rhapsodyinbooks' Weblog has five copies of The Terror (US and Canada only, no PO Boxes, please!) to share.

Terrifying thought, I know. Dan Simmons taking over the world? Truly. Terrifying. We all know Susan's supposed to do that! (Did any of you buy that?)

Unlike Rhapsody's contest for the Italian Lover, there are no fun and extravagant ways to enter (what? You don't want to visit the Northwest Passage, Rhapsody??), but there are multiple ways to throw your name in the hat.

You have until February 16 to do it. Go for it. (and then you can help Susan take over the world, okay, Pinky?)

Guest Blogger: Jill Sorenson

Hey, if you haven't heard, there's been some upheaval in the behind-the-scenes at Yankee Romance Reviewers. There's a team of enthusiastic volunteers who're trying to maintain status quo, but if things seem a bit wonky over there, rest assured it's a temporary thing.

Which is why I'm letting you know NOW, a good eight hours later than usual, that Jill Sorenson is visiting today. (AND rubbing it in that where she lives, there is NO SNOW.)

Please stop in and see her. Let's help Terra heal by showing her blog lots of love!

Blood Harvest

I know I tell many of you guys that all you need to do is send us a url (to the permalink, please!) of your contest and we'll do the rest.

Still, it's super to meet a new blogger who takes the time to say nice and flattering things. I'm a writer, remember. I've got a fragile ego! (I can hear some of you laughing so hard, you've just sprayed your keyboards with coffee. Explain THAT to the local IT guy!)

Wife and Momma of 3 is hosting a Read in the Bathtub day, which sounds delish. (You e-reader folk, put it in a plastic bag -- and seal that sucker! -- before doing this) She's actually holding it at her book review blog, The Book Faery Reviews, but you can enter at Wife and Momma of 3. The book? Blood Harvest, written by Brant Randall.

Check out the options for entries, too. Wow!

Kitty and the two most recent!

All the books in Carrie Vaughn's Kitty series start out with Kitty and ... so I thought I'd title all the blog posts about giveaways that way. I'm so funny, I know. I can hear you guys groaning and yes, I'm ducking the garbage you're heaving my way.

Anyway, Patricia's Vampire Notes is going to make five fans of this werewolf series very happy. She's got copies of the most recent TWO books in the series, Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand and Kitty Raises Hell.

All you have to do is tell her which Kitty book up to this point has been your favorite. (there's also an option if you haven't started the series yet. Like me.)

US and Canada residents only, and no PO Boxes, please. You have until February 17!

Use this link -- and if you sign up for Patricia's newsletter, there's another goodie for you...especially if you're a Laurell K. Hamilton fan.

The Red Leather Diary

I've been hearing talk of this. The Red Leather Diary, a book that was purportedly found in a trash can.

Lily Koppel, the author, is lucky enough to see this book make the jump from hardback to paperback, and Dawn at She is Too Fond of Books has five copies to rave about. And share; after all, you only need one to rave.

To enter yourself, you have to tell Dawn whose diary you want to discover. That's it! You have until February 16, with this contest being restricted to the US and Canada, with no PO Box holders eligible (unless you have another address 'cause most of us can't fit into those teeny boxes. Even mine, which is a medium, is too small for little me.)
