Kelley Armstrong

I'd heard Kelley Armstrong is a great woman in real life. I've heard people sing her praises.

And now, we can see why. She's visiting with our friend Amberkatze this week, and you can win the Kelley Armstrong book of your choice. Actually, two of you can -- but only one will be autographed by Ms. Armstrong, herself.

Read the interview. You'll agree: she's cool.

Confetti Cakes for Kids

Lisa at Book Ahoy has a stack of five copies of Confetti Cakes for Kids.

I don't know about you, but as the holiday weekend begins to wind down, I'm searching for things to do with my kids. Watching them climb the walls has lost its charm.

Too bad I don't have a copy of this book yet... Why don't you get your hands on it before the December holidays set in? They are longer and the recipes in here will make great homemade gifts (if you can't buy a book, that is!).

US and Canada only, and no PO Boxes. You have until December 6.

Patrick Rothfuss Fundraiser

Okay, so Heifer International has nothing to do with books. At least, that's the case until you add author Patrick Rothfuss into the mix.

If you donate $10 to his fundraising efforts, he'll enter you in a chance to win a cool prize. AND he'll match whatever funds his fans donate. He's aiming for $30k. So far, he's got $21k.

Make a difference. Win cool stuff. It's a win-win for everyone. And I bet Aunt Sally would rather hear you donated that $45 instead of buying her that horrid rayon-polyester sweater you get her every year (and that she returns as soon as she can!).

Buying Books for the Holidays?

If you're buying books for the holidays, you might want to report your purchases at When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Buy Books, a blog devoted to persuading others to buy books for the holidays. If a book is mentioned more than once, it gets featured on the main page.

And you? You get mentioned in the sidebar.

(Susan is trying to think up a cool prize if you get her Demo Tapes listed in that main list. Maybe she'll buy you a book of your choice. Hmm...)

Report your purchased books here. Check back often, as the list will keep growing and changing.

Don't hate me. By sharing this link and coupon with you, I'm saving myself from using it and yes, I still have 500+ books in the house, waiting to be read. I swear, every time I read one, at least one more shows up to take its place.

Still, books make most excellent gifts, and having a bonus coupon at BookCloseOuts is better than having leftover pumpkin bundt cake for breakfast. This one's sweet, too:

Anything in the fiction category with a black star beside its title means you'll get 50% off the price. HALF OFF.

Holy cheap books, Batman!

What a Scoundrel Wants

The Amazing Ann Aguirre (author of Grimspace, among others) is at it again. I swear, there is NO bigger cheerleader for her friends than Ann Aguirre. She's a real inspiration for any of us who care about books and spreading the word about the good ones.

Well, Ann is holding a HUGE contest over at her place. But she's not doing this to promote her own books. Oh, no. She's doing it for author Carrie Lofty, author of What A Scoundrel Wants.

This is what she says:

To celebrate the upcoming debut of Carrie Lofty’s fabulous WHAT A SCOUNDREL WANTS I’m hosting a total blowout of a contest. For starters, I’m offering TWENTY (20) free copies of this book. If you win, you must promise to review it somewhere within a month of its release (that’s December 2). Amazon is fine if you don’t have a blog. Two lines on Shelfari is not. Now to make this even more interesting, I’m offering a bonus prize of a $50 gift certificate (to a bookstore, naturally!) if we hit a hundred (100) entries.

C'mon, gang. You can commit to reading this book and posting a review about it during the month of December. You're book bloggers (most of you); you do this stuff in your sleep!

You may need help figuring out Ann's widget, though. Of course, this is the sort of thing I have the Tour Manager for, so maybe it's just me.

Two Brothers: One North, One South

Ahh, this cool-sounding book is heating up. Possibly because us here in the North are cold and the South ought to be heating up ... or so we snow bunnies want to believe.

The truth is that Two Brothers is a Civil War story. Aha, you think. That title now makes sense!

Shana at Literarily has her gently-used hardcover to share with you. Now, now. That doesn't mean she didn't like the book. It just means that there is only so much shelf space in a house, and only so many books you can put on those shelves. And every other available surface... Sometimes, books can't stay. This is one of those sometimes.

So get on over to Literarily and enter yourself for a chance to find out what the fuss is about. You know you're curious!

Let me know if I'm right or not.

Guest Blogger: Cynthia Eden

I've been seeing Cynthia Eden's name here (I think it's here...) lately, so I wanted to let you know that she's guest blogging today (Wednesday) at Bitten by Books.

Use this link. I might be notifying you too late to win anything except some knowledge about a cool author, but that's okay. Knowledge is power. And temptation when in a book store.

The Search

Jezebelsk at Walking on Sunshine has a cool-sounding give. The book is The Search, written by best-selling author Iris Johansen. If you've been following Johansen's Eve Duncan series, you won't want to miss this.

But fear not! If you haven't followed the series, this is a good book to pick up. Read the review at Walking on Sunshine to see why.

To enter, you have to talk about something you lose constantly. That's it. No tricks, no treats (which is good 'cause I've still got Halloween candy in my freezer).

You have until December 3. So what do you lose constantly?

Yes, contests you see posted here counts. I suppose...

Confetti Cakes for Kids

Oh, my. The cover of this book is too darn adorable. Darn those genes that made me a writer who's visually hopeless!

The book in question is called Confetti Cakes for Kids. Elisa Strauss is behind it, but whoever made that cover (and photographed it and finished the rest of the design) ought to get some kudos, too.

Luanne at Bookworm's World has three copies of this to share with US and Canada friends, but no PO Boxes, please. Be sure to click through to her review.

You have until December 4 to enter. The review, that'll be there forever. Ahh, the power of the Internet.

It just came across one of my many publishing feeds that author Tobias Buckell, whose name you might recognize from this place, took sick yesterday and wound up in the hospital.

Good vibes to a wonderful author would be appreciated.

The American Journey of Barack Obama

I'd say it's right that this book is hot right now. I mean, heck, we've got a lot to learn about Mr. President-elect Obama. Love him or hate him, he's going to lead the States, so let's stay involved ... even you guys in other countries.

Anyway, Joy Renee has a copy of The American Journey of Barack Obama to share with someone out there.

This is coming from the publisher, so US/Canada only, no PO Boxes allowed. You have until December 6, but don't wait. You might forget, and you don't want to do that.

The Pre-Nup

Monie from Reading with Monie was kind enough to drop us an e-mail for the first time. Let's hear it for Monie!!

Monie also has an ARC copy of The Pre-Nup to share with you guys. It was written by Beth Kendrick, for those of you like me who like to keep track of authors' names (and you should! It's part of how we connect to a great book).

You have until 23 November, but don't delay. Open worldwide and, for a twist around here, only one entry per person. But you can tell others about this give anyway. It'll be appreciated.

Hey, this blog reached 1000 posts yesterday! Wow! Thanks to you guys for keeping us going with lots of fuel. Here's to another 1000 posts full of great reads.

Like this one. Jaime at Confessions of a Bibliophile dropped us the always-welcome e-mail to let us know she's got a copy of the cool-sounding Any Given Doomsday, written by Lori Handeland. Okay, she's got TWO copies of the ARC version, one with slight spine creases. Because, you know, that's the hazard of reading an ARC version of a book.

Two Brothers: One North, One South

(Disclaimer: Susan's fingers are cold. Ignore any typos.)

Lisa at Books on the Brain is a gem. She's sending me all sorts of news of contests today (although she better watch out or we'll give her the keys to the blog and let her post herself!).

Now, she's pointed me to Kathleen's Book Reviews and a copy of Two Brothers: One North, One South, written by David H. Jones. How have we not known about Kathleen before? She's got an interview with Mr. Jones and everything. (I haven't read it yet, so I can't call it fantastic. Yet.)

This contest is open worldwide, and you'll get an autographed copy of a very intriguing-sounding book. (yes, I talk in double -ing words frequently. Why do you ask?) The deadline is November 31, but since there isn't a November 31 on the calendar, let's just remind you guys not to dawdle.

Use this link.

(and a huge h/t to Lisa!)

The Green Beauty Guide

Lisa at Books on the Brain is an absolute gem to have for a friend.

Know why?

She dropped me an e-mail and asked me to let you guys know not only about another contest (one she's not hosting), but also about a new blogger, who's not quite found her footing yet. Lisa was hoping for some good, old-fashioned West of Mars love thrown at Amanda, who hosts Life and Times of a "New" New Yorker.

(Hey, wait a minute. I've been to her blog before!)

Anyway, Amanda's got a copy of The Green Beauty Guide, written by Julie Gabriel. I can't decide if this no-nonsense look at beauty products and our skin is scary or a must-read. Maybe it's both. All I know is that I'd sure like to read it.

You can enter the contest through November 30. And even if you don't, go say hi to Amanda.

Inside Straight

Pat's Fantasy Hotlist has a neat-sounding book. It's edited by George R. R. Martin, who is a literary force unto himself (and yes, I'm a fan of his one series).

Inside Straight is described by Pat as:

New to the Wild Cards universe? So was I at the same time last year, when I discovered that Inside Straight was fresh, hip, complex, and very entertaining! This book marks the beginning of a new series, one that is meant to satisfy long-time fans and newbies. So here's your chance to see what the buzz is all about!

Hmm. Doesn't say too much, does it?

Guess we'll have to enter, win, and find out for ourselves! (Or else cave and buy it at our friendly local independent bookstore)

Holy smoke. There are yet MORE copies of Gods Behaving Badly, Marie Phillips' latest novel, up for grabs!

Of course, the books will be coming right from Hachette. US and Canada only, and no PO Boxes.

You have until November 29.

Violet in Private

Our friend, author Melissa Walker, directed me to a contest featuring her book, Violet in Private.

At any rate, HipWriterMama has conducted a really fantastic interview* with Melissa Walker, so check it out and leave her a fashion tip. Leave one for me, too, 'cause I'm walking around with super glue on my pinky nail... don't ask!

This is a fast contest, so get over there by late tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

*Yes, I know I say that about them all, but that's because I only mention the really fantastic ones. It's called Selective Omission. I like it.

The Flavor Bible

Bermudaonion was worried we were starting to miss her (we were!), so she decided to, just for us, offer YOU guys three copies of The Flavor Bible, written by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg.

Now, how is that for book love? I'm all weepy-eyed.

Oh, wait. There's something in my contact. Hold on...

Okay, now that we can all see properly, be sure to check out bermudaonion's review. She's got a great insight into the value of this book. Yes, I'm going to make you read it for yourself.

I'm mean like this.

So are the mailing restrictions, sad to say, but the books will be coming from Hachette. And by now, I hope we all know what that means -- no PO Boxes and US/Canada addresses only.

Use this link before Friday, November 28. Which happens to be the day after Thanksgiving.

Novel Adventures

Wasn't it yesterday that Bridget was commenting that we hadn't heard from Booking Mama in awhile? Maybe that's because she was busy setting this up.

She's working with CBS.com and their new webcast, called Novel Adventures. And she's got NINE books to give you -- and what a varied assortment!

I'd list them all, but you wouldn't believe me. Go on over to Booking Mama's site to see for yourself.

You have until December 2. Entrants are limited to someone who can accept "domestic shipping."

I hope there are no livestock involved in that shipping thing.

The Book of Lilith, Janeology, Inquest on Imhotep, Escape

Okay, I've been slack lately and I've been letting you know about other giveaways, but forgetting my own! Can you believe that? But they all end November 30th, so you've got plenty of time to get your entries in.

Anyway, one just posted for The Book of Lilith by Robert G. Brown. Amazing book I read back in February, and the author has graciously provided a giveaway copy!

If kick-ass chicks and the Garden of Eden aren't your thing, I'm also giving away a copy of Karen Harrington's Janeology. Who is to blame when a mother attempts to murder her own children?

And Barbara wasn't too fond of Inquest on Imhotep by Derek Adie Flower, but she's hoping someone else will enjoy it. If you like Egyptology, give this one a try.

Don't forget author Rye James is sending a lucky reader a copy of Escape. Check out his guest blog to learn about Escape and his western, The Assassin.

Whew! I didn't realize I had so many books to give away! I'll see you over at Breeni Books!

Scattered Leaves

How does Serena have time for Savvy Verse and Wit when she's got all these contests happening? Must be a well-kept secret...

Get this. The book she's sharing is Richard Roach's Scattered Leaves. Serena compares it to a James Patterson novel. No kidding!

Read all about it -- and stop back tomorrow (Tuesday) for an interview with the author. Today, though, is all about contest entry. You have until November 21, and Serena LIKES to mail internationally.

(Serena might also kill me for saying that, so if Susan goes missing for a long period, you know why)

The New Writer's Handbook Volume 2

We're midway through November and if you're like me you're preoccupied with your word count for Nanowrimo. While The New Writer's Handbook Volume 2 by Ted Kooser isn't the official Nanowrimo book, it's still full of tips for writing that might help you next year.

The rules are:

Winners! We Have Winners!

I've been sitting on these for a bit now, hoping more of you would pop up. If you've won a book from a listing you found at Win a Book, speak up! We'll give you some links.

Amanda won a copy of Nefertiti. (she didn't tell us where, just that she won)

Lisa won a copy of Gods Behaving Badly. She didn't leave us any links, though.

Congratulations to Amanda and Lisa!

Like I said, speak up (and include any links you want us to post) and we'll mention you here when things slow down. Also, keep those contest e-mails coming in via the handy dandy Win a Book e-mail. It may take an extra minute or two from your busy day (trust me, I know about busy days!), but we appreciate it more than you know.

Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe

Weird. Shana at Literarily usually e-mails me about her contests, but this one missed us somehow. Come back, Shana! We love your e-mails!

Thankfully, I have Shana in my reader, so I can tell you guys about this.

Author Jennie Shortridge has stopped in at Literarily to guest blog about the power of women who read. I like Ms. Shortridge already. And that was BEFORE I read her most excellent post, which talks about a philosophy I've been bringing to my own book club for years now.

Shana's provided us a TON of links before getting to the giveaway. There's no reason you can't know a lot about Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe before entering the contest (or buying your own copy).

The contest is open until 21 November, and Ms. Shortridge has offered a signed copy of her latest novel. There are no mailing restrictions indicated, but you might want to indicate when you leave your e-mail address if you're not in the US or Canada. Just to be nice. Just like Shana is.

Katie Brown Celebrates

Katie Brown Celebrates...do you?

No, that's the title of the beautiful party book that Lisa at Book Ahoy is giving away. It's got recipes and crafts--everything you need for year round entertaining. Lisa even tried the Honey Spiced Almond recipe, and she's posted a picture of the result for you. She has FIVE copies to give away, so get your comment on!

For an entry, leave a comment at Book Ahoy by November 22. There are multiple ways to win, so read over the fine print while you're there. Open to US and Canadian residents.

House of Daughters

Does anyone else get mesmerized by the header on S. Krishna's blog? I just sit and gaze into the texturized bookshelf...

If you can get past the hypnotic allure of her header, scroll on down to the latest giveaway. Some lucky reader will get a copy of House of Daughters by Sarah-Kate Lynch.

For an entry, leave a comment at S. Krishna's Books by Sunday, November 23rd. You'll need to tell her your favorite book set in a different country to qualify. Open to US and Canadian residents.

Pretty Monsters

This looks very Lemony Snicketish, or at least the cover does. Maybe I'm just on a cover kick today.

Regardless, Book Chatter is giving away a copy of Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link. It's a teen fantasy novel that I'm itching to throw an entry in for. It sounds amazing!

For an entry, leave a comment at Book Chatter by Sunday, November 30th. While you're there, see how you can grab a second entry. Open to US and Canadian residents.

Broad Street

Dar over at Peeking Between the Pages is giving away not one, but two copies of Broad Street by Christine Weiser! That psychedelic cover is enough to make me want to read it! Actually, it looks like something our own Mrs. Gottfried might want to snag if she's dug out of her tbr mountain, yet.

All you need to do is leave a comment at Peeking Between the Pages for an entry, but there are a few ways you can score extra entries, as well. Winner to be drawn on November 22, so get your entry in ahead of time!

The House on Tradd Street

Missing Halloween already? How about a ghost story?

Write for a Reader is giving away a copy of The House on Tradd Street by Karen White. There is a little bit of everything in this novel: romance, ghosts, mystery, and Civil War lore. This seems to be a theme today, doesn't it? Anyway, the novel is set in Charleston, South Carolina, a notoriously haunted city of historical preservation. Shelly loved it, and that's why she wants to share it with another reader.

For an entry, leave a comment at Write for a Reader before November 18th. That's the day she's going to draw a winner. There are several ways to earn extra entries, but this one is open to US residents only.

That Night in Paris

The Naughty Lady from Shady Lane, aka author Saskia Walker, has a goody for you today!

Visit her blog for a little teaser, a short story titled That Night in Paris, courtesy of Scarlet Magazine.

Warning: this story is explicit, as Saskia is a very skilled author of erotica. Reader discretion is advised.

Two Brothers-One North, One South

No, Patrick Swayze will not be making an appearance today. This is about a different pair of warring brothers.

However, you do have a chance to win a copy of Two Brothers-One North, One South by David H. Jones. It's historical fiction set during the Civil War, and A Real Librarian says you can learn a lot from it. She reviewed it for TLC Blog Tours, and now she's giving her copy away.

You have until Sunday, November 23rd to leave a comment at Confessions of a Real Librarian for your entry. Open to US residents.

Public Service Announcement:

Our own Breeni has launched a new initiative that I hope you'll all be part of.

Over at Today.com, she's launched a new blog that's intended to be as much of a resource as Win a Book. What she's doing is providing a questionnaire to book bloggers who are open to reviewing books. Even if you're not a pure book blogger, if you'd be open to hosting an author's guest post, to being part of a giveaway, or doing a review, this is a resource you'll want to be part of.

She's asking participants to fill out a questionnaire that's pretty comprehensive: what genre do you like? Will you review self-published books? Do you host guest blog posts? Are you an interviewing maven? And more!

The idea here is that book bloggers are gaining more weight and influencing more and more decisions about what readers buy when they walk through the doors of that local independent where the staff knows your name (sorta like Cheers, only without the hangover the next day). This sort of resource will allow authors, publicists, and promotion people to better target potential partners in promotion.

It's a waste of everyone's time when you're contacted about an end of the world novel, but you loathe them so badly that when your husband brings one home, you use it to toast marshmallows.

This is meant to be a way to cut some of those unnecessary e-mails out of your lives, so that you can focus on the books you'll love (or expect to love) the most.

Here's the link! Come be involved, everyone!

Slash by Slash

Every now and then, we come across a contest that's not tied in to a book blog. We like these just as well.

In fact, I really like this one, because it sort of fits with my latest post over at my personal blog. Sort of.

You see, Harper Entertainment, the publisher, has teamed up with Gibson Guitars (drool) to bring one lucky winner an autographed copy of Slash by Slash. You remember Slash, right? Wooly black hair in his eyes that's held in place with a black top hat? Guitar genius for Guns 'n Roses in their late 1980s heyday and now the soulful sound behind Velvet Revolver?

Speaking of Velvet Revolver, if you win this contest, not only will you win the autographed book but you'll also get an autographed CD of the Revolver's latest release, Libertad. Nine runners-up will get a mere copy of the book and the CD.

You can be sure this is one contest Susan didn't think twice about entering. Now if she can only figure out how to fix it so she's one of those lucky ten... Or if Slash would stop by her personal blog for that one-question promo post Susan digs so much...

On I dream, in the first person this time. Come keep my entry company by submitting one of your own. And when you win and I don't, you can laugh at me.

Use this link to enter by November 30.

MJ Rose duo

The Inside Cover has more MJ Rose, including an interview. And, of course, books.

Here's what she has to say:
Two winners will each receive a paperback copy of The Reincarnationist. Two winners will receive The Memorist. And the Grand Prize winner will receive both books in the series.*

Check out that caveat -- due to lack of funds, this is a US/Canada only contest.

Use this link before November 23.

Sam's Quest (for two things)

Anna, our good buddy over at Diary of an Eccentric, has found this cool-looking series. In fact, not only is this a series for children, but it's written by Ben Furman, the former FBI anti-terrorism chief. (Think he knows the gang from Criminal Minds? Nah, didn't think so. Bummer.)

Anna tells us about the first two books in the series: Sam's Quest for the Crimson Crystal and Sam's Quest: The Royal Trident. And then she interviews Mr. Furman! That HAD to be intimidating; you know someone with his background is a pro at being interviewed. And is he a wonderful interview! Wow! Check out the fan mail he's been getting, too.

Mr. Furman has offered one copy of each book ... to different winners. Check out all the details over on Anna's site.

One Perfect Day

Jennifer over at Quiverfull Family is on vacation without her e-mail password! Eek!

She wins the champ award, though: she still got me word of a giveaway she's sponsoring.

The book she's got to share with you is called One Perfect Day, and it was written by Lauraine Snelling. It has a lovely snowy cover (I might be ready for winter to arrive. Ask me next week, once we get some snow.), but if you need more than a lovely cover to entice you, there's also part of Laura's review -- and a link to the whole thing.

You have until 20 November ... and it's coming from the publisher. So that means, of course, US and Canada only, no PO Boxes.

Bloom

I made a new friend last night. Author Melissa Walker dropped me an e-mail, letting me know about her Win it Wednesday contests of mostly YA lit. I knew you guys would dig it, as a number of you have written about your affection toward the YA genre. (An affection I share, btw)

So... it's with great pleasure that I tell you about Melissa's latest Win it Wednesday book, Bloom, written by Elizabeth Scott.

The entry requirements are a bit stiffer than in past weeks, but they all sound like they'll expose you (and me) to neat new worlds.

Author Interview: Darrell King

My friend Gautami in India continues to surprise me. She's got to be the most literate math teacher I've ever met. And if you haven't read her poetry, you're missing out.

She dropped me a line asking me to mention to you that she's just completed an interview with Darrell King, author of Mo'Dirty Still Stuntin'.

And if anyone can explain that title to this metalhead, I'll be grateful.

Off Season

Our cool friend Shana over at Literarily has a neat contest going. It's for Off Season, the new novel by well-regarded writer Anne Rivers Siddons.

Check out Shana's review; she identifies a few reasons why it's not for everyone. But then again, why not stretch your boundaries? Especially since it sounds like Shana would really like to discuss this book with someone.

Use this link by November 21.

The 19th Wife

The 19th Wife? Wow, that's one picky man. Or not picky, if he kept the previous 18...

Only one way to find out what's up with David Ebershoff's novel, and that's to head over to Diary of an Eccentric and win it. (Well, you could buy it, too. That's always a good thing, buying books, especially from an independent book store. But that's not the point of this blog!)

This is a lengthy post, with a fabulous book summation and a guest blog by Mr. Ebershoff himself. Grab some coffee and curl up for a good read. It's interesting stuff. AND there are lots of links to other, equally interesting and related things, too.

As the copy of The 19th Wife that you can win is coming right from the author himself, this contest is open to everyone on the globe! Be sure to follow Anna's directions carefully ('cause, you know, that's a good way to show respect and all) before November 19.

Gods Behaving Badly

My dear friend Joy over at Joystory has five copies of Gods Behaving Badly, written by Marie Phillips, to share. Man, this book has been bumping around for awhile; I've been hearing about it for months now, and not one bad word has reached my ears (or eyeballs, depending on your point of view).

The copies are coming from Hachette, of course, so you know the drill: US and Canada only, and no PO Boxes. (No wonder my box is so lonely lately!)

Is it Just me....

Seems that this is going to be a popular question around here: Is It Just Me, or is Everything Shit?

Written by Steve Lowe and Alan McArthur, with Brendan Hay, this is a book that I know will turn people off just based on its title alone. But give it a chance; there's real content here, it seems.

Ruthie at Books Books and More Books has five copies to share -- but only if you first share what your pet peeve of the modern age is. (Mine's not enough safe roads for riding my bike on!)

You have until Saturday, November 15 -- but only if you're a US or Canadian resident who doesn't have a PO Box.

Katrina at Stone Soup had NINETY FIVE entries last week for her Your Choice give. Holy smoke! You guys are a rabid bunch! (And I like it. But only if you'll be that rabid about other books. Like mine.)

Anyway, this week, Katrina's got a copy of The House on Tradd Street, written by Karen White.

The Flavor Bible

The Tome Traveller's Weblog (what a great name!) has a different-sounding give to share with everyone. It's a copy of The Flavor Bible, written by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg.

Yep, it's a cook book! Well, maybe not a cook book in terms of recipes so much as a cook book in terms of teaching readers to understand how flavors work together. If you've wanted to improve your cooking (just in time for Thanksgiving!), this is the book for you.

Unfortunately, this is a US/Canada only contest, with PO Box holders disqualified. You have until Monday, 24 November to enter, which puts it close to Thanksgiving, but hey, there are holidays coming up in December, right?

I wonder if these flavors will work with latkes...

Is it Just me....

And to switch gears from the political stuff, we have a snarky humor book that'll put life back into perspective.

Shooting Stars Mag is hosting this contest and it's one of those graduated ones: for every ten comments, another copy will be thrown into the mix, up to five copies. Hachette will mail the books out, so this is a US/Canada only contest, with no PO Boxes allowed.

You have until November 30, but don't wait. Remember, the more entries, the more copies...

The Safety of Secrets

Well, this contest has been a best-kept secret around here, huh? Dawn at She is Too Fond of Books e-mailed me last week, but it was such a busy week offline that it got buried in my inbox.

However, this secret is out. Dawn's got another week for you guys to step up and enter a contest for her gently read paperback copy of The Safety of Secrets, written by Delaune Michel.

The contest is open world-wide, although Dawn reserves the right to use the cheapest shipping method she can find. These days, that might be accompanying someone on their way to visit your country! (well, it'll be cheap for her, but not the person travelling. Whatever.)

Dawn wants you to talk about your best friend, too. Right now, I'm glad she's not trying to scratch out BFF on the e-mail we swap...

Chocolate and Romance Event

Oh, man I am SO there, except...

This event is in Farmington, CT, and West of Mars is nowhere near there. Susan is one sad puppy.

SO. If you are in the Farmington, CT area and can make yourself free to visit the Borders in Farmington on February 7 (put it on your calendar!)...

Aww, heck. This is how it appeared on Stella Price's blog:

Authors of different kinds of romance will be on hand selling and signing books, and attendees will be treated to refreshments, snacks, goodies and lots of free stuff and will also have the opportunity to win one of 6 romance inspired gift baskets. What authors? Lemme tell you:

Stella Price
Tilly Greene
Jessica Andersen
Cat Johnson
Allie Boniface
Isabelle Santiago
Toni Andrews
Marie Force
Kristan Higgins
Denise Egan
Emily Bryan
Kathryn Smith
Annette Blair

Hmm. There's no time listed. I guess you can get it as the date draws nearer.

Now, I have to tell you: Tilly Greene is one of my favorite women on the planet. And Jessica Andersen is so cool, she alone makes this event worthwhile. So if you're in the area and you don't go... shame on you for six weeks. Or longer. (unless, of course, there's a blizzard, at which point you're excused)

If you go, tell Tilly I sent you. And grab some chocolate for me.
